Legendary France striker Just Fontaine has passed away, aged 89.

Fontaine holds the record for the most goals scored at a single World Cup, having netted 13 goals in the 1958 World Cup. He scored 30 goals in 21 games for France between 1953 and 1960 for Les Bleus, before his career was cut short.
During his club career, Fontaine played for USM Casablanca, Nice and Stade Reims. He won the French first division four times, as well as the Coupe de France and the French Super Cup.

I'll never forget this game. Natural goalscorer.
A few days later a 17 year old Pele excited the world just outside Stockholm.

For years he was Just a name to me, imprinted within my brain due to a childhood obsession with football facts and figures.

Great highlight reel on YouTube these days though.

Just like a French Ken Wagstaff.

Remember it as well. First World Cup I watched as an 8 year old. The one who stuck in my mind, and in 1962 was Garrincha. Brilliant winger, though at 5’7:would not have been tall enough for us.<laugh>

... Didi,Vava, Santos brothers etc in '58. All flooding back.:emoticon-0100-smile

Garrincha was an anatomical oddity in terms of his leg joints apparently. He also was in a total world of his own. He would turn up for games and when togging out would ask who are we playing? He would go awol a lot too. oftentimes eventually being found playing street ball with his old mates.

If his legs had been straight he'd have been 6'2", but probably not as good as he was.

Very sad news. Incomprehensible two adults can do this to their own baby
RIP
Police officers searching for a missing baby have discovered the remains of an infant near to where the child’s parents were arrested after weeks of evading authorities.

Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were arrested on suspicion of child neglect and later gross negligence manslaughter after refusing to reveal the location of their missing child, who had not received any medical attention since its birth in early January.

Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, were detained without their child near Stanmer Villas in Brighton on Monday night after a tipoff from a member of the public.

The arrests brought to an end a 53-day nationwide search for the couple and triggered a “painstaking” search for their baby, with hundreds of officers trawling open land across an area of 90 sq miles in Sussex.
