Can anyone remember a Scottish lad played in defence for us. Ian Munro?

He was dubbed psycho when Stuart Pierce was still in huggies.

Never the most skilltull player but the lad gave his heart & soul to the cause.

Jaysus wept, some of the poor ****ers he left writhing on the ground in agony, just ask Steve Coppel.

Others that sick in my mind,

    Kevin Ball
    Joe Bolton
    John Kay,

wISH OUR SQUAD ALL HAD THE ATTITUDE OF THOSE LADS.

Benno for me, used to love it when he went on those mazy runs from defence only to blast over the bar. The one exception was in the last minutes against man utd! That header against Gillingham, sacrificing speedie to the clock stand paddock, dancing on police cars - it was never boring with Benno!

Davros, I'm glad you mentioned Dick Malone. I always thought he was a very under-rated player. Brilliant running off the ball sometimes. And his Cup Final against 'wonder winger', Eddie Gray was just outstanding. I liked Malone a lot.

Gary Rowell as a centre forward, Joe Bolton as a defender, didn't come much harder than him.

I would have said arca as he was very classy and a really nice bloke (met him and Thome having dinner one night) But the first player i saw with a bit of skill and class (at the time lol) was Colin Pascoe! Can remember him at roker park taking few arsenal players on and just putting it past the post! We drew 0-0 and would have probably stayed up that season had we won that game.

I've just read "John Kay" what a bloke!

Had a mate who played for the reserves with Kay, the winger was giving him a hard time. The ball was played up field and when said friend looked over Kay was biting the young lad on the head!!!

My hero was George Herd. Same team as Cloughie and Johnny Crossan. It could have been any one of them from that team

Roly Gregoire . Seriously though anyone of the 73 team. If only we could have kept that team together. I used to play for Lambton St boys club and a certain Richie Pitt was involved. Davie Corner and also Gary Porter also played.

Kevin Arnott was one of the most skillful footballers I have ever seen in a Sunderland shirt - also showing my age!

Michael Chopra. Anyone who loves us that much that he'd pass up an open net has to go down as the best ever!

My god, names that haven't half awakened memories of them on the pitch.

For me it is still Dave Watson. Most of you will not have seen him, but he was THE best CH around in his day, AND if it wasn't for him we would have been out of the cup in '73, beaten 1 - 0 by Notts County in the 3rd round.

Shack was great, played footie with him as a kid down the rec. Suit on and shiny shoes running rings round us all. Another name for you all is George Mulhall - remember him - LW and he had a shot like a f***** bullet!! Pity it never seemed to be on target though <sighsmiley>
