The Harold Wilson whose dad was an industrial chemist and who studied at Oxford University and went on to be a don there or a different Harold Wilson who started off life selling old fish heads down the docks where his mam was a fishwife? I am of course being facetious here which I’m sure you recognise.
I’m not saying that every prime minister came from the landed gentry but the majority of them have.
A quick search of Wiki bears this out, although I will concede your point about Harold Wilson not coming from the ruling classes but he was hardly working class either.
Labour’s poster boy Tony Blair went to The Chorister School in Durham then Fettes College in Edinburgh. You could easily ask what he really knew about socialism and the plight of the working classes. No prime minister has really come from the proper working class, be they Labour or Tory.
From Wiki.
Twenty prime ministers were schooled at
Eton College, of whom nine were educated at Eton
andChrist Church, Oxford, including all three who held office between 1880 and 1902 (
Gladstone,
Salisbury,
Rosebery). Seven were educated at
Harrow School and six at
Westminster School. Rishi Sunak was the second to be educated at
Winchester College. Eleven prime ministers to date have been educated at only
non-fee-paying schools; these include all five who held office between 1964 and 1997 (
Wilson,
Heath,
Callaghan,
Thatcher,
Major).
Theresa May was educated at both independent and grammar schools. Three did not receive (primary or secondary) school education and were
homeschooled during childhood.
