When stripping wallpaper a fair sized chunk (about square 50cm or so) of the 75 year old plaster fell off the bricks where it had gone soft. I want to get a vinyl wallpaper up on that wall ASAP. What can I use on the bricks that will dry fast so I can paper it before the year 3000?

I'm thinking cut out a big square section, screw some board into the brickwork then skim over and match it all in?

Interestingly the wall was tagged, signed, dated 1941 and has a swastika engraved in it <laugh>

I get pissed a lot, does that count?
the swastika is a hindu sign for peace.

Indeed, it was everywhere on the predominantly Hindu Bali. I remember Kula Shaker using it in imagery and getting **** despite having this argument. Was a bit daft though, no matter the origin of the swastika everyone knows who adopted it.

I know **** all about plaster.

Go to B&Q they will advise you what products are best suited to your needs, not sure plasterboard will be the same thickness as the remaining plaster you want to match up to.
