I was on the way back from the game when I heard the news. I went from ecstatic to complete shock. I really hope he pulls through. My thoughts go to his family and friends.
Praying for a miracle, I just hope he can pull through, although by the sounds of it, it doesn't sound too likely.

Awful news. I read the other day that in '07 FIFA were considering bringing cardiac stress testing for players after a surge of heart incidents on the pitch, places like Italy do already test players. For non professional football players, one of the best and cheapest tests is to ask to have your blood pressure measured on both arms when you visit the GP.
Just read on a football related facebook group that he is breathing again in the ambulance.

The only hopeful news is that, in cases where defibrillation is possible within only a couple minutes, as it was here, they are able to restart the patient's heart three times out of four...and with a physically strong individual like Muamba, it's likely higher than that.
Cardiac stress testing should be mandatory for all professional players. This simply happens too often, and with an estimated 1 in 200 people having hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (which is usually the cause when young, otherwise healthy individuals suffer cardiac arrest) it's likely that there an awful lot of people in the game who have undetected heart conditions.

I think they brought testing for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in for young footballers a couple of years ago. Presumably Muamba would have been tested for that.
If you recall Adam Lallana was diagnosed with a heart problem which was found early enough to prevent a real problem, it may explain why some Clubs have not pressed too hard for his signature.
