I just don't understand why any kind of sacrifice needs to be made. You just play your best possible team in each match as it comes up, and try and win every game. Winning league games gives you confidence and boosts morale to win the cup games.
Absolutely! We have a decent squad, most of whom, if not all I'd like to think, only have one interest. Win the next match, it's a no-brainer.

Both!

But if I had to choose it would be league. We won’t win the cup but we might finish 8th.

Oh the glory of finishing 8th. Running around St Marys waving '8' signs. Mick Channon brought back with his number 8 shirt telling us all that the 'boys done good'.

Wheras finishing 16th but winning the FA Cup would be rubbish!

When we won it Lawrie was asked if winning it made up for missing out on promotion. His answer was an unequivocal 'Yes' I'd sacrifice finishing in the top 15 to win the Cup. No question.

Sorry, mate. I don't usually knock the comments of others but this has got to be a no-brainer.

Like I said in my post we won’t win it. So the choice is cup run or good run in.

I'm glad Ralph isn't as negative as you! With the form we're in if we beat West Ham and then get a home QF we've got a decent shot at getting to Wembley and then you never know.

Looking at the rest of the fifth round draw, I'd expect the bookies would have those in bold to be making the last 8:

Posh v Man City
Boro v Spurs
Everton
v Boreham Wood
Palace v Stoke
Luton v Chelsea
Liverpool
v Norwich
Forest v Huddersfield

If we were to make it through, and a couple of those big guns draw each other, the competition opens up considerably.

We have to guy all out for the cup. Simple.

Boro are the only one who might cause an upset there imo though I think Palace/Stoke might be tight.

Realistically if we beat West Ham then I'll be delighted to avoid City and Liverpool and would give us a great chance against anyone else.

Although you could argue there's more chance of beating one of those in a QF than in a final. Would rather let someone else do that though.

I'm cup over league every season but this season it really seems a no brainer given how we marooned in midtable we seem to be and how we've played against the top sides.

I did say both!

I thought this thread was about whether, if you had to prioritise one, would you prioritise the cup or league.

As others have said we should aim to win every game, which is what we will do.

So after checking out the league table, only Leicester can catch us based on games in hand.. villa will be at best 2 points behind us, and we're only 1 off Brighton.. don't reckon we'll catch wolves or spurs though so 9th and fa cup winners looks best for this season... So fa cup over league position for sure..

Well I think we have our answer, we beat West Ham and then look disinterested in the next three league games. After today it's clear we are playing poorly not because we are a bad team but because we are saving all our energy for Sunday. Ralph wouldn't say this publicly, obviously, but we couldn't be this ****e in three consecutive games without a master plan in progress could we? So far so good. Now I've realised what's going on I can confidently predict a comfortable passage to the semi finals.
As someone said only recently "Does anyone actually believe that we won't win this one?"

Yep, it is clear now our first 6 months of 2021 were all just a ruse so we could finish this season with a whimper and smash City in the quarters.

You folk who proclaimed Ralph is a genius are all correct <whistle>
