Massive explosion at scrapyard in Byker. 8 Fire engines on scene.

Could be damage in excess of £5.73p

That joke doesn't really work when you've already stated yourself that the fire is in a scrapyard.

...Unless you're insinuating that Newcastle's scrap metal is of lower value than other places? If so, you're a comedy genius.

Stop making yourself look like a dick kidda: it was only a joke!

Yeah, and it was **** and unfunny.

I know you like being known as the guy who talks **** all the time, but give someone else a chance to hold that title for a while will you? That's a good boy.

Was a canny ****ing blast like, we heard it, i have a video of it on me Facey page i took from our car park.

Flames were 80-100 foot high like.

Not following on from the joke like, just recounting the tale.

went over my head too

I wonder what it is and what's burning now. By the look of the smoke and the smell you would think it was mostly tyres. Unless it just involves metals and a general mix of combustible scrap.

Is it still going?

We can't see from indoors we face the other way down the Tyne.

Gotta be some very combustible gear in there it was huge and it was raging, the flames were above the roof of the 4 storey blocks on the Quayside, and ain't that scrapyard down the bank a bit as well?

Not sure. It'll take a loooooong time to put out a fire like that though. The sheer amount of heat will just keep everything burning and they'll have to literally DRENCH the entire heap of whatever is burning. It looks like a big ass heap.

Could go on for days I reckon before it's fully extinguished. Depends what's burning.
