Undoubtedly a great footballer but IMHO a complete ****er of a man. In his autobiography he admits he wanted to be allowed to break his contract to join Chelsea and was angry that he wasn't allowed to go. Then he goes on to slag off Levy for going back on his word when he broke his word ("a verbal contract") about selling him to Real Madrid.
<doh>

Gutted when he left, but some of things you hear he said did turn it a bit sour for me. Shame.

Cracking goal though...

Great player, blessed to have had him for Spurs. Was always gonna get to the very top and like Bale it’s impossible to keep players as good as that
Great player for us and became one of the greatest MF of all time imho. But as RCL so rightly said....a total arse of a man. And that's not even discussing his financial irregularities....

I'm probably misunderstanding this, but he didn't want to be sold to Madrid?
