Absolutely. Spent too much time building and getting the club to a higher profile. Time for a big name to maintain the pecking order. And someone who knows about the Europa League might be an advantage. Let's not forget that.
He has worked miracles at Bournemouth and that is purely down to his coaching ability. He would get far more support with transfers and backing from the board, he is young and fresh thinking and I think that he would do a great job here.
Same agent as the new or old one? Both puts me off, but if its the current one then game over of DeBoer.
Just popped in for a moment for a brief cameo. Not read every word of the thread (or possibly even many of them) but: A message to all the people who absolutely know this to be a done deal. You can more than halve the cost of your season ticket by backing Ron to be the next Everton manager on Betfair. Invest at every price down to 1.19 and for a stake of a mere £1,652, you'll win £401.50, less 5% commission, so £381.42. Those bets are available NOW and the way Betfair exchange works, you are guaranteed to get your money on. Not doing it? Why not if you're absolutely certain? Think it over. Perhaps you're not absolutely certain. Vin
Just getting someone to commit to the five year plan is enough, he will more than likely have Sammy Lee and Dave Watson there with him and Maybe Jose and SKD later. Better than going through this whole sage again in 2 years time.
Dear God, 20 pages have appeared since I read this thread last and still there's no definite news. I'm off to bed...
It's strange for me because I've wanted Howe as a future manager for a long long time, for the reasons you say. But now it's come to it I think we're in a different, unusual position (for us) where we can attract a manager with European experience and a rep in Europe too. And i think that's where we should be aiming our sights. I also reckon Howe might turn us down again anyway if we approached him. There would ve a meltdown beyond meltdown in Bournemouth if he left them for us and isn't he more of a Pompey lad?
So if Howe comes and has a succesful 2 years out of a 5 year deal and say, Liverpool or Arsenal come in for him, he won't be off anyway?
But if we get a manager with experience and rep, how long will they commit to staying here? Will we have the constant speculation of them going whe we build thier reputations further...We need stability for the next five years not constant change.
Actually, I'm quite happy for a bigger name to come in and piss off after 2 years. The profile of the club is raised each time. Personally, I'd like to sack one after two years for only finishing in the Europa League.
He would have 3 years left on his contract and I would say that he is more likely to stay than a "big name" manager.
