Also seem to recall Koeman angling pretty hard for the West Ham job. When that fell through he was putting out the "Please someone in England come get me!" distress call.
Which I don't really blame him for. He was available, and looking for a job. And fortuitously, we had an opening. Given what was happening at the club, we were going to have a difficult time bringing someone in and we need someone quickly. Koeman was in a bit of a pickle otherwise might not have come. It was actually a pretty big break for us.
But he never really had a huge affinity for the club or "the project." We were always a stepping stone for him. And had he left this year, I doubt anyone would have been too shocked. Or really even that mad.
Similar to the Lallana situation I think. If Lallana hadn't kissed the badge and gone on all gushy about how much he loved the club, it wouldn't have gone down so badly when he angled to leave. If Koeman hadn't talked all that stuff about how he always finishes his contracts he could have left in relative peace. But Koeman did say that stuff and he laid it on pretty thick right up until the last minute so I have very little sympathy for him.
Maybe the supporters should have been a little smarter and not been taken in by his lies, but he's still a big fat liar. And he's going to get it from those he lied to.
