I do not think it is anything to do with the academy. The person I talk to has said he thinks it is more about contracts (of players) and Koeman not wanting to lose 4 or 5 players a season.
Not all of us are guessing. I'm just waiting to see or hear what happens. I was just disagreeing with Jasper about trust.
It's a nice idea that 2 people in the same company, occupying the same building, don't talk, but I'm pretty sure Ron has been told the details of the contract and has deferred making a decision. He also said not long ago that January would be time to talk...obviously Les doesn't agree.
I'm very "meh" about the whole thing. If he stays he stays and if he goes then he goes. One thing the board have shown themselves to be very good at is replacing managers, so I'll just let the whole thing play out and if he leaves back the board to find another good manager.
Unlike others, I would let Ron stay for next season if that is all he will agree to (not saying that is the case, just if), because I think our great form since January suggests next season could be good indeed. Saints would know the situation and have someone lined up for the following season. I don't see that we are risking anything.
Now that's completely understandable, although Ron has said that he has worked under that scenario time and again. Wouldn't surprise me if he thought he'd worked long enough under that scenario. Couldn't blame him for that.
The thing you are risking is Koeman bringing in players the next manager doesn't want. If the next manager comes in and has a slight twist on how to do our transfers etc, it could end up with players bought in just for one season.
Properly sensible post. Tbh, I'm 90% the same as yourself. There's bugger all I can do about it, so why should I even get concerned.? Being on the forum and reading others views probably generates the interest, I suppose.
Although extremely premature to talk of a replacement for Koeman, as I personally think he will stay for a minimum of 1 year. I am just wondering what people think of Eddie Howe as a future saints manager? Young, talented, ambitious, starting to gain premier league experience aswell. We would be a perfect next step for him in terms of level of the club as well as location for personal reasons of course. Thoughts?
Very capable manager for Bournemouth. Perhaps in about 10-15 years when he's got some proper form at PL and Euro level. Don't want to take a backward step in the shorter to medium term. The next manager needs to be the same level minimum or higher.
EH , NO THANKS . He is good , but there is something about him and Bournemouth that just Clicks . That may sound simplistic , but it's what I Think . Was it Burnley he went to and failed ?
Les Reed has a massive impact on who we buy....so all players will be bought for Southampton. Obviously the manager has impact and recommends players he likes, but said player still has to fit. All managers work with players bought in by previous managers.
I find it hard to use a player or managers previous level as a reason not to sign them. Forster, wanyama and Van Dijk were very good players FOR CELTIC. But they've done extremely well for us. He did fail at Burnley, that is a fair point and he is not a big name. It is also worth pointing out that Koeman and Pochettino hadn't been consistently successful at a top level before us. Pochettino had a good spell in Spain but left mutually after bad form (not entirely his fault in fairness). As for Ronald, many in Spain remember him as one of the worst managers the league has had, despite a cup win. My personal opinion on Howe is that it would be a risk, but in terms of keeping a manager that could grow with us and be part of a 5 year plan, it would be a good appointment.
Like I said on the match thread (I will say again as that thread will disappear): People now need to just chill with the upcoming Koeman rumours going crazy. No point in worrying about it.
Let's hope so Beefy. We are building some real momentum. All going well, it will continue into the new season, and Europe
