Aren't we overreacting just a little?

Some might say Jose is quite clever and will make it work

Your lot will be fine, just an off day. I still expect Chelsea to be challenging for the title come the end of the season..

Is this real? after a quick check of the fixtures i have discovered you will play Palace twice this season, none of which are disturbed by wcq.

I think there is an element of over reaction here. Actually we played well but Everton played and more importantly defended better than us. We had them under the kosh for a long time and had plenty of GOOD opportunities to score yet none of our so called world class strikers could find the net. Everton got a smash and grab then defended for their lives. Good for them but don't forget Jose did lose with Chelsea before. The reality is that all the real title contenders have lost one game this season. Game on.

I thought we put in a great team performance but it was Barry who was the difference between the 2 sides, he was superb & that block - was a match winner, as if Eto'o scores there, it's a different game.

You had a few great opportunities to score, but only forced Howard into 1 tough save (from Ramires). Schurrle looks gash to me, no idea what you saw in him like. Eto'o will score goals in this league once he's fully match sharp. Luiz at CB is ill disciplined at times imo.

Enjoyed the game, your support was great btw & good luck for the reast of the season <ok> (I still fancy you to win it tbh)

Thought you were great but it was really Schurrle's profligacy in front of goal that cost us. First with the weak square ball to Eto'o which allowed Barry to get the block in, and then with free shot at goal going miles at the bar. At this level if you miss chances like that you'll lose more often than not, Premier League is very punishing in that respect.

I still think we'll be up there, but there isn't really a favourite. Chelsea flatter to deceive, City overrated and United quite sub-par. Even Arsenal can't be dismissed if they can get to January without too many key injuries. The season doesn't really start till this week because we'll get a better measure of where the top teams are at when they have to cope with playing twice a week.

Worst start to a season in the Abramovich era.

I'd hoped lessons would be learnt and the usual profligacy in front of goal would be sorted out but if your missing chances like Oscar's v Bayern and Schurrle v Everton then chances are you won't win football matches. That's the difference between a very talented side like ours and a great side like Barca/Bayern. When presented with gifts, they take them.

Pretty much agree with all of that. Pellegrini is the only manager that players to fit his system and that's why he'll win the league. Once we offloaded Lukaku and kept Ba we lost any right to be labelled favourites. I think we'll just miss out but make a real fist of it in the cups. In a sprint we can beat anyone, but not in a marathon.

you lost cos you left your shooting boots at home and cos of a poor bit of defending...you out played Everton for most of the first half and Everton are a very good team at home.
Chelsea will be in the fight for the title

Not whilst we're only averaging one goal per game we won't.

I'm amazed that you let Lukaku join us tbh, I thought he'd be a massive player for you this season (not that I'm complaining :) )

I'm not amazed, Lukaku isn't good enough for a side wanting to win the title (yet!), still a raw talent who is a bit rough around the edges. Another season playing regular football is just what he needs. West Brom to Everton is a great move, better football and more pressure on him whilst playing regularly now. I am amazed that we didn't sign a top striker though.

Not for the want to trying though Drogs. We we're linked heavilly with Rooney, Cavani, Falcao and reported to have enquired about Lewandowski. For various reasons none came off; similar to United with their quest for a midfielder.

Lukaku loan was sensible as I couldn't see Jose starting him all the time. Just hope the others between them will be good enough to carry us through this year.

I think Willian will also be a brilliant for us when he gets a game!

Even as a rough diamond I reckon he's got more about him that the hapless Torres mate.

Disagree. Cavani went to PSG. If we'd really pushed for him we'd have got him. There's no way RVP was worth £24m but Man U were prepared to pay the money and reaped the rewards. In this day and age top strikers are rare and we haven't got one. United, City both have and even Liverpool do.

Out striking options are now probably 5th/6th best in the league which isn't really good enough.

Bit harsh DL, if the golden boot winner of the last two seasons isn`t worth £24m what striker is or what would you expect for £24m?

£24m for an injury prone player nearly 30 in the final year of his contract? <laugh>

I'm not doubting his ability, but it was way over the odds, but ultimately you had to pay you.

For 53 million though!! We've had our fingers burnt with Sheva and Torres, can't blame the club for being cautious in this regard.

Not as bad as going out your way to pay 4.5m you didn't have to for your main transfer target <doh>

So much negativity on here you would think Chelsea were absolutely awful in this game but they were not. In fact Everton were on the back foot for the majority of this match. Poor finishing cost us.
