Everton (A)

"today's point,...was excellent in my book".

And in mine Ivor. I feared another loss today, but will happily take a point off Everton, any day of the week.

Only two defeats in the last seventeen games, apparently. I'll take those stats any time.

PGF, don't worry about sarcastic comments mate, you made an effort that's what counts.

I've just walked out of the ground, but I'll keep my thoughts to myself, just happy to take a point

yes very defensive display and I dont like the Swans to play like that but against the likes of Everton we are always going to struggle so I think its ok to do that occasionally. the dissapointing thing today was our link up play which was very poor and it meant that many promising positions broke down and Everton just kept on coming back at us. if our passing had been better we could have opened them up and i would have fancied our chances against a very one dimensional Everton side, Laudrup needs to be working on our ball retention as its been poor in the last 2 and a half games(2nd half against Arsenal) the fact that we havent lost those games is testiment to how much our defence has progressed.
Negatives:
Dyer-WTF i wonder where his head is at these days, needs a spell on the bench to sort himself out
Hernandez- wasteful in possession again a very frustrating player who needs to work on consistency
Agustien - anonymous, we really missed Leon in there
Positives:
Vorm - superb on crosses today (how many times have we been able to say that about a Swansea goalie!) - the competition from Tremmel is hopefully paying off
Tiendalli and Davies - very good today
Chico and Ashley - awesome at the back , dealt with everything Everton threw at us
1 point more than I thought we d get!
30 points- safety is in sight!

1 dimentional Everton? What game were you watching lol attacking down the both sides/on the floor/a few long??? <doh>

Anyway apart from that well played today to you guys your defence was great today and good luck for the rest of the season to you especially the league cup I reckon your going to get the silverware there:smile:

"seemed resigned to the fact that we aren't capable of winning this game". Everton don't lose many, especially at home so that's a little harsh. Perfect, clever tactics and team selection (almost) by Laudrup. Dyer is no front man and yet again was really poor.

As already said, Chico & Ash were fantastic and the former has surely booked his place in the Spanish team for the upcoming friendly. Hope he doesn't get injured.

Great point against one of the Division's high flyers. <applause>

maybe a bit harsh fair play Everton have moved on over the years but I saw a lot of balls going into into the box that we just soaked up. Fellaini though - he is class, won everything today

I don't think it was meant as a criticism, you have a particular way of playing and you play it very very well. With the likes of fellaini in your team it would be wasteful not to utilise his ariel presence and you do that by pumping a lot of balls into the box from wide areas. It got you the result against man utd and also against us for the previous 3 games prior to today. Credit to you.

Well we came away with a point, the game plan was for a draw I think, is that negative ? Probably, is that the best tactics against a team that has our number, I think yes. Every point gained is a point to safety. I would like 40 points before we get into any final if we are to get there

I'd take a negative point before an attractive playing loss ,certainly away from home .Lets not lose sight the amount of games we've played and how defensive we've been ,that takes fitness, determination and obviously a bit of luck.

I think you have done really well and look more resiliant under Laudrup tbh your now showing you can adapt and play the pretty and the dig In stuff where under Brenda the digging In was non exsistant from what I remember<cool>

Like I said good luck from here on In see off Chelsea and stop everyone on about Bradford lol(cant see villa progressing)

Srereo, bear in mind we had a tough game against Chelsea and Everton had 48 hours more energy in their legs. This week we've got Arsenal again, then a league fixture, then Chelsea again. It's pouring tough fixtures right now.

We need to get to 40 points when perhaps the pressure will ease a lot and we can play with less fear and more freedom. Meantime, every point counts and today's point against a good Everton side who are pushing for a European spot, was excellent in my book.

Ivor I agree that Everton had had more rest than us. I just hate playing for a draw. If Everton had scored in the last 5 minutes then we may as well just tried to play an attacking game from the off.
It is another point and that's great, but I feel we are seeing this type of display more and more. Yes it's a great defensive display but surely there's more to a game than backs to the wall.
We did it against Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton. I worry that the Arsenal replay and Chelsea 2nd leg will be exactly the same. I used to look forward to taking on the big teams, but if this is the game plan for all of those matches I'd rather play Villa and West Ham etc.
Last season we won many plaudits for trying to take on teams away from home - this season it seems we are quickly becoming Bolton and parking the bus and hope we get a breakaway goal.
I know we have done better this season as far as points away from home, but I want to see us have a go rather than absorb for 90 mins.

There are certain away games where 'having a go' would probably result in a good thumping. Given the quality of opposition recently such as Tottenham, Chelsea & Everton I think the approach is correct.

I agree, put it this way how many were complaining about Brendan not having a plan B ? Now we have got someone who gives us different tactics depending on the opposition , and having a plan a,b,c and so on some fans are saying its to negative etc.

Listen to what the opposing team's fans are saying, listen to the pundits in our games, but look at where we are now. I don't think we've moved away from the ethos at the club, Laudrup has just adapted it slightly to the circumstances. In other words he's giving us options.

Agree. Getting points away from home means doing what we have to do, the way it needs to be done. We don't have to entertain the home crowd. We have a grueling schedule this month - Laudrup is cleverly squeezing every last drop of sweat and guile out of his squad and it's going to get ugly at times, but a point here, a cup final achieved there .... role on Feb with some points in the bag, a final to play in, and most important of all injury free.

Does Michu's yellow card today rule him out of the Arsenal game? I think that's 5 for him now isn't it?

No. It gets reset at the start of the year. As his other 4 yellows were last year he is on one yellow for this period.

I think Laudrup is spot on tactics wise, there is a time to play good football and there is a time to grind out results, his Job is to keep us in the Prem, 'Pretty' football cames second to this.

Had this been a Rodgers era style of play, we would have been battered today like we were earlier in the season, and ML has identified this and as a result we have not only developed a resilience without the ball and made it difficult for the top teams to break us down, but we have also looked comfortable at times doing so whilst hitting them on the break i.e. Arsenal and Chelsea <cheers>
