Which is it, stealing our jobs or claiming all our benefits? I'm not sure how they can do both.
One of UKIP's biggest successes was in Rotherham, one of the most racist places in the country where huge numbers of people are generations of unemployed since the pit closures of the 80s.
People are turning to the immigration thing at the end of their tether with problems that have nothing to do with immigration or the EU.
Anyone that doesn't support your view is racist! You are just so bloody arrogant and ignorant! You make me laugh when you come across as preaching tolerance and yet you are so quick to be intolerant of any other views!Labour has completely turned it's back on the traditional white working class, it doesn't speak for them or fight for them anymore. Half of the swing in UKIP's vote has come from the BNP. Make of that what you will. Labour's vote is up 10% so that doesn't sound like anyone is turning their back on Labour
Well this is very punch and judy politics isn't it... the left let all the immigrants in to get their votes and gave them benifits and anyone with right wing tendancies is sexist and racist, I mean come on really...!!

Think that sums it up pretty well tbh. I'm not a fan of UKIP although I do think it's good and clearly a wake up call for the 3 main parties and increases the continuum of who to vote for, I just think it's dangerous with a party like UKIP who clearly elicit such anger (or appeal to angry people). Comparing UKIP to the Nazis is an extreme comparison but there are certainly similarities, a charismatic leader who plays on peoples genuine fears after a turbulant time in the country. Immigration has been a big issue for many people in this country for hundreds of years and I doubt it will go away but it only really becomes an issue when paired with econimic downturns.
Have to say i find it depressing that UKIP have done so well in the european elections, I think it's fair enough in the local elections but it worries me that they've been voted in as MEPs as have other far right parties in europe, it'll only make the situation worse it's like turkeys organising xmas dinner in that they'll just oppose everything

It will go one of two ways, it will either peter out and things will revert to normal at the General Election or 'them and us' politics will continue to spread like a cancer until there is real disharmony and then you'll end up with unashamed hatred and violence.
As a businessman it does piss me off that years of hard work building my company up could be put at risk by a clown like Farage running the country into the ground in the future and the kind of nation that my kids would grow up in.

It's very difficult to predict but the type of politics UKIP stand for in terms of being against something can't go on forever, they will after a while either fade into obscurity like BNP or have to adapt what they stand for to survive.
For me now the main parties have to be bold and show some metal in dealing with this issue unfortunately I don't think Cameron or Miliband will be bold, they'll just pander to what they think people will want to hear and Clegg is just not respected by the electorate anymore even if they agree with him on an issue. This! I am a businessman too,self employed since 1977 and,cards on the table I was a Labour District Councillor for fourteen years.I represented probably the wealthiest town in East Anglia and was the first ever to do so for Labour.I was a Blairite before Blair.I acknowledged that people who were prepared to work hard to get on should be applauded not penalised.
Sadly that has passed into history.I never had any sympathy for scroungers and my view is that probably no more than 10% of claimants are.Unlike many Labout people I can see the problem with immigration.For one thing it is used by the unscrupulous to instigate a race to the bottom in wages.Without any doubt the biggest problem facing the country is Islamification.Many of them are good,decent people but their hard line representatives make Farage look like a liberal lefty they are rooted in the middle ages and their mantra is that the ends justify the means.It grieves me to say it as a lifelong Labour supporter but sooner or later Enoch Powell may well be proved right about his "Rivers of Blood"
Great post CT but just to correct you in that Enoch Powell never actually said Rivers of Blood in his speech!
I think he actually said he saw The Tiber river flowing with blood,or some such thing.It became known as The Rivers of Blood speech.An intelligent man,almost certainly a homosexual btw.
Enoch Powell is one of my political hero's! An intensely intelligent man and a visionary. He represented his Wolverhampton constituency with distinction. He was totally against us joining the EEC as it was in them days! A highly principled and patriotic man who was never afraid to stand up for his convictions.
I think pretending that there is not a problem with immigration and looking the other way is far more dangerous and more likely to end in disharmony and violence than tackling the issue head on now.........
In many ways I always saw him as the Tory equivalent of Tony Benn.Powell would put together his arguments with consummate skill and it was often difficult to disagree with them.And yet...you knew that it wouldn't quite work out in practice,they both lived in ivory towers.Powell was thought to have had a relationship with A.E.Housman who wrote A Shropshire Lad and Blue Remembered Hills the Dennis Potter play was based on it..
Ted Heath on the other hand sold this country down the river! I despised Heath and I was pleased that the miners brought his government down!

I never voted for a coalition I voted for a Conservative government! If Cameron was a proper true Conservative we would have a proper Conservative Government instead of this liberal mish mash! It was down to Cameron not being Conservative enough that we couldn't form a majority government. This guy is as useless as Ted Heath! This government has made a start on cutting back on public spending but it has not gone far enough and the next government will have to make even deeper cuts! If Labour get in we will be Taxed out of existence!
And I make no apology for being a no nonsense old fashioned Tory!

If we cut back anymore we'd be bald, and the policies aren't working because the deficit is increasing.
I agree he is useless but he's no more useless than he was before the election and the Lib Dems have certainly not exerted any influence.
