Spain were very good...Italy considerably less so. I would have enjoyed it more had it been closer. The triangular passing is incredibly skilful at times but palls after a while. It felt a bit like watching a practice game. As far Lawrenson's remarks during the game, I can't see either why he's there.

Lawrenson spends a lot of time grunting, or saying 'yes'..or more accurately 'uh'...so boring!

The match itself was too one sided for entertainment, especially at the beginning and when Italy went down to 10...still, finishing the match at 12:38....i'm glad it didn't go to penalties! lol

Too many bad passes from both sides, straight to the opposition, behind their own players as they were moving forward into open spaces or not even hard enough to reach their own players. Couple that with the Italian predilection for rolling around in agony after losing the ball without being touched, and I start to wonder what is in store for The Vic patrons next season.

A fair point, BB...perhaps we are looking in the wrong direction for our coaching team. Sir Ian McKellen? Kenneth Branagh?

It was a good tournament, with a lot of the later knock-out-stage games close to call. Spain took the mick a bit winning when playing a lot fo the time without any strikers. Shearer's comments about England are refreshingly correct and to the point. We have a lot of work to do to get up to scratch for Brazil 2014.

Did make a change from the usual "England have world class players and are as good as anyone" type of comments we usually hear from the media in this country.

Mind you its easy to say now after the performances at the tournament.
