Except you lose points or go out to teams like that all to often..

In danger of sounding like a hippy. There's never any fun surrounding your national team..be it manager..players or fans
..there should be! You have exciting players!
Generally (or at least historically) England haven't lost to the smaller teams and gone out in tournaments, its usual Germany or Portugal or Argentina

The excitement disappeared long ago, overrated players and too much media hype have destroyed any fun an England fan can have.

And not to sound arrogant, but England qualify for almost every Euros and WC, so 'just being there' isn't something to get excited about. The lack of progression dampens any prospect of fun at a tournament

Not at all (arrogance wise) but I think you have to start from the basis that you've won feck all for a long time and only got to a couple of semi finals...which means you've no right to expectations...now that's not to put you down. It's to take the pressure off.

Think about it...last time you looked really really good was 96. Why? There was a good feeling about it....from everyone involved...and it wasn't because you had the best team..feck sake half of them got pissed as preparation but that was the point...they were a team....family...they going in, weren't as good as the germans Spanish or Dutch on paper ...yet you beat two of those and by a boot lace almost beat the third...

The price paid by our daft clubs for English players puts them on a pedestal they don't deserve or can survive...

You're better than the rest of us player to player but you've forgot what us lesser teams know wins you games against better opponents...

The expectations are always too high. Yes in the fans, but the media go overboard. Every time we have a decent run of wins against mediocre opponents we're suddenly world-beaters. The build up is such that the fall is bound to hurt.
Yes England have some exciting players, but Iceland have just shown how an organised team can negate them. England have never looked like they knew what they were doing at all in this tournament. The win against Wales was only because the daft Taffs gave them more respect than they deserved.

I've had to laugh at the meltdown. Tyldesley, monumental orifice that he is, was using words like ignominy and couldn't disguise his disgust and feeling of betrayal. At one point towards the end he said something like "If England lose, the repercussions will eclipse anything else that is going on in the UK at the moment". It's a football game ffs, get a sense of proportion, man.
