One player that impressed me when he came on and changed the game for Portugal in the last game was 18 year old Sanchez. Class, strong, and industrious. I think we'll hear a lot more of him.

Anyone else coming to the conclusion these Euros are turning out a bit pish? Lack of really good matches with loads of poor ones, no real standout impressive side(s) or players? Usually the quality gets stepped up in the knockout stages but that's not really been the case so far and looking at the remaining quarters the only one I'd say I'm looking forward to is Italy v Germany.

£35m for an 18 year old. Is that some sort of record?

There has been enough rubbish on the radio about England's failure at the Euros. This is not the point of this post. I have however been looking at old football programmes I found while clearing out an old cupboard. One such programme was for the Scotland -England game just before England left for Mexico in 1970. Here is the England pool:

    Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton

Keith Newton, Tommy Wright, Emlyn Hughes, Allan Mullery, Nobby Stiles, Brian Labone, Bobby Moore

Martin Peters, Alan Ball, Geoff Hurst, Bobby Charlton, Jeff Astle, Francis Lee, Peter Thompson

How times have changed? Just think how many 'leaders' would be in a team constructed from the above pool?

Not too sure about that. Italy vs Germany could turn out to be as dull as dishwater. Ze Germans are not showing the flair of 2014, and the pizza people don't change much. Try to score a goal, then if successful, pull down the shutters, lock all doors, and generally shut up shop. However, must admit they are showing a more adventurous spirit in this tournament.

I reckon Wales vs Belgium looks alright to me. Wales are a revelation and were unlucky to lose to England IMHO. Belgium seem to be generally unpopular, don't know why, they have some fine players and are a pretty good team. Look forward to this game very much.

At the moment it seems to me that both the Republic of Ireland and England should stick to Rugby Union (ain't that a wonder with the latter nation?), and Wales stay with both codes as they're doing just fine. Erm, Scotland? I'll leave BayernKenny and Gazboy to answer that, but they are definitely improving fast at RU. Northern Ireland (excuse late jotting), although tiny in population, acquitted itself a damn sight better than England in this competition.

Scotland are kidding themselves if they think they are improving at 'footie'.

Rugby Union is another matter. Stick with the current coach and draft in a few more New Zealanders with Scottish grandparents and who knows!

There is a sense of " excitement" in Scotland for football as the old firm derbies are back HOWEVER Aberdeen struggled to beat Luxembourg team last night and Hearts likewise against Estonian outfit. So it is tempered with a papering over cracks for what in reality is a broken set up!

    Mon the Wales

Screw the football that would seem to be a great trip to Tallinn for the Hearts fans. Heard good reports about the bars and bints in Estonia. Just have to take a wee bit of care with their cash/cards and enjoy themselves.

Hummels too. The upcoming Bundesliga season will be its usual utterly boring self! Other clubs just cannot match their buying power, and purchasing skills too, of course. Bayern's scouts get little or no recognition, but they do a hell of a job, wouldn't you say? If I see another Bayern shirt in town, think I'll, oh **** it............. <laugh>

Is Kevin De Bruyne playing? If Belgium think they're going to win this by just playing pretty football they'd better think again. They need to show some of the spirit shown by this Welsh team, otherwise they're out. Some of the Belgians seem sort of bored by it all?

Absolutely stunning from Wales, no praise can be too high for this performance. A good old fashion Tommy Lawton-style header from Vokes to finish it off too. Brilliant. <applause>
