Migrant workers tend to take the money they receive out of the UK economy. Many of the Polski Sklep's around here are actually owned by Bangladeshi's.

The model is flawed. It's a similar one that was used in the deep south of America, where plantation owners paid nothing to slaves. The end result was a collapsed economy, a there was no money in circulation and therefore no trade locally.

Most of the migrant workers in the UK buy goods and services in the UK whilst they are here, so they are contributing to the the tax revenue. It's a scale of economies equation, the perception might be a low wage for hard work for UK citizens, but if you're being paid 3x what you'd earn for the same work in your native country, then it's an attractive option.

Comparing it to the US slave trade is ridiculous. It's nothing like slavery at all. That was simply landowners being given legal jurisdiction to enslave people of colour and their families to work for them, with no rights or legal representation. Based on a deeply racist doctrine that white landowners had a divine right to enslave black people. It's a ludicrous comparison to make. Also the economy of the deep south actually thrived under slavery but it was amassed by white landowners. It was after the civil war which ended slavery that the economy of the deep south collapsed due to there being virtually only low manual skilled workers who had only been trained to pick cotton, tobacco etc, whereas the north had developed factories, banks, railroads and manufacturing industries.

I think they come for the work as much as the perceived increase in pay. Getting paid 3 times as much ain't going to help you much when things cost 5 times as much.,

Ignoring the issues around benefit payments for their children, the migrant workers tend to spend little, and then often in 'foreign' run shops, such as the Bangladeshi run Skleps, which takes it out of the local economy, before leaving taking the money with them, to be replaced by others, where the cycle continues.

It leaves a reduced number of worker in their homelands, meaning they struggle economically and need support.

Paying people less drives down other wages, which leads to less money being available to spend.

There's a billionaire doing the talk circuits that emphasises the fact that lower wages (or zero wages) are not good for the local economy, but can make a few individuals wealthy he quotes the example of I think Seattle and Washington, as City's that increased their minimum wage, and then become the two fastest growing economies in the US.

He also makes the point that what limits entrepreneurs isn't a lack of ability, but a lack of customers able to buy the product. Hence people being paid nothing, such as the slaves, hindered their local economy on a very big scale.

Probably the most stupid post you've ever made, and there's been plenty of competition for that particular accolade

Europeans are largely white, and similar "race" depending how you want to define it. They get open access. The ones limited include all the other "races". If a company or political party applied a similar system of screening applicants, they'd find themselves pilloried for racism.

I'm not going to disagree with the bit in bold as I have no evidence to suggest it's incorrect but I find it hard to buy into. Surely the majority of the migrant money goes back into the economy ie utilities, rent, mortgage, bread and milk from whichever supermarket is selling it cheapest etc and then they buy some speciality goods from speciality shops.

It depends. Some, such as Drs etc, quite probably so, but the others tend to live in shared accommodation (often foreign owned) and shop at Skleps. I guess you could argue the bits they buy in the large chain supermarkets creates the need for a shop assistant or two, but even that's in exchange for the full time jobs that are no longer really available to locals. The types of contracts available now offer little security for workers to make long term investments on houses etc.

So far away from logic that all I can say is Ok!

Peter's one man crusade that white supremacy never existed <whistle>
He's alright though Jack.

We could not survive without immigration. who would work in the NHS......Lets hope we keep paying into the EU for as long as possible to keep this melt down as slow as possible until someone brave enough makes the right decision to stay in......There are countless businesses giving the decision a chance to see if they remain in the UK or not but even then they wont wait forever. The buy out of the steel works looks to have pulled out and will now not take place, The Tories are in turmoil back stabbing one another and 140 Tony Blair new labour politicians have given a vote of no confidence on socialist leader who 160.000 new Corbyn supporters joined the party this week alone, so he is going nowhere and we need to get rid of Tony Blair new labour rubbish out of the party altogether and get back to what people want with proper labour values...

Who is saying we won't have immigration? The chances are that we could end up with more, as we'll be opening up a much wider market. Many of the immigrants in the NHS are non-EU anyway, but that number is dwindling as the current system discriminates against them.

Tories are in turmoil? They are holding a leadership election. It is being done sensibly.
Labour will not get elected with Corbyn in charge no matter how many left wingers infiltrate the party.
