I fear Bellingham might be another we’ve overhyped. Great athlete and a very good player but compared to his contemporaries in Pedri and Vitinha, I can’t help but feel he’s lacking in that creative spark. He’s great at making late runs into the box and making powerful runs but he can’t dictate the tempo of a game. Problem is England don’t have anyone like Vitinha or Pedri anywhere near that level. Closest is Adam Wharton. Even at full strength, England’s midfield is lacking in something. Rice is a great box-to-box midfielder but doesn’t have the composure to dictate the game from deep and it’s why Arteta doesn’t play him as the sole number 6 anymore. Bellingham is very similar to Rice but can play even higher up the pitch.
