Glad to see Stones back in the squad, he's out most talented centre back by a long way in my opinion. Gomez probably shouldn't be there but there aren't many options at the moment.

Hudson-Odoi is a cracking young talent and I'd love to see him get some minutes.

Grealish is perhaps a little unlucky to miss out but it's not controversial.

I'd like to see Alexander-Arnold, Maddison and Abraham all getting starts in one of these matches.

Are you on drugs???
No. Stones is much more talented than Maguire in my opinion although I agree that he's more prone to an error.

Agree about the central defence, nowhere near good enough to win a tournament. Maybe I'm looking back to the fairly recent past with rose tinted glasses but I think any of the following would be our best centre back at present: Campbell, Ferdinand, King (when fit), Carragher, Terry. We badly need a really imposing, commanding centre back. Other than that, and probably lacking a centre forward to really challenge Kane (Abraham has done canny this season like) we're in a great place, and in Sterling we have someone who, imo, is genuinely up there with Messi and Ronaldo at the present time

You could throw a fit Woodgate into that list as well. We were blessed with some quality centre backs in the early-mid 2000's.

I agree with you that Abraham deserves a chance and that Sterling is world class. Right now he's probably one of the top 5 players in the world.

I like trippier but he appears to be no longer needed. I found it strange his departure from spurs and no other top English team were interested at the relatively cheap £20 million he cost Atletico

imo spurs are worse off a right back since he departed

Technically gifted yes, but he gets paid to defend and unfortunately hes not very good at doing that. He only gets the recognition he gets because he plays for City. If he played for somebody like Villa he'd be regarded as an average defender.

The drug comment was more in relation to Gomez. How can you say he probably doesnt deserve a call up? Hes one of the most promising Centre backs around at the moment. He has featured in massive games for Liverpool and his partnership with Van Dijk was one of the reasons Liverpool won the Champions league and came runners up in the league last season!

Disagree with the Stones comments, he was massively rated at Everton too who are not Man City.

As for Gomez, he's talented but since the first game of the season, he's only played 6 minutes of football in the league for Liverpool. Last season, again he was good, but he missed the business end of the Champions League from February until the final. Since he lost his place, he hasn't been able to get it back from Matip and Liverpool are far stronger without him. He's a future England centre back probably but not based on current form.

I don't rate Stones at all he's good on the ball but is far too weak and error prone. He's the defensive version of Ozil, great when he feels like it but that's only 25% of the time.

I'd go with Mings and Maguire with Tomori and Gomez as backup.

Yes Stones was highly rated at Everton, but he was a kid then and i dont think hes improved. Pep signed him because he loves ball playing defenders, he also needed to add more English players to his squad. Most people expected him to become better defensively once he got older and played for City but he hasnt in my opinion. He still holds on to the ball and gets dispossessed in dangerous areas like he used to at Everton.

As for Gomez, he was part of the team that beat Barcelona 4-0, where he showed his versatility and played at Right back. He also played nearly every other game for Liverpool when fit last season. He only never played when he got injured. How can you not have somebody like that in the England squad?
Liverpool still have loads of games to play this season in all competitions, Gomez will get plenty of game time.

Id have Lewis Dunk and Lascelles in infront of Stones. I really dont rate him at all.

Maddison is completely next level to Grealish, he’s better than him in every way, by a margin, and the first potential Proper number 10 we’ve had in years.

Going to a casino after being sent home on medical grounds shouldn’t be stopping him getting games, he’s got that magic we are missing in there, we have great midfielders galore just without that match winning spark.

Maddison will be a massive England player, mark my words.

They were talking about Coady at Wolves getting a chance on Sky earlier, and it’s hard to argue. Decent CB and pings balls about for fun.

I’m concerned that he’s barely used him, for all the good he’s done as manager he seems determined we play a safe, tight midfield.

We don’t need to do that now, we should be outplaying people, we’ve shown we can last 2 years since the World Cup.

Exactly mate. We have Mount as a replacement aswell followed by Ali. Weve never been so strong.
Calvin Lewin, Sancho, aswell as the 2 Sessignons cant be arsed naming them all but tbe future looks good

Real deal now, now straw clutching. We are genuinely good enough.

We just need a CB from somewhere, we’ve class and cover everywhere but CB, a new Rio to go alongside Maguire and we’d be magic.

Yeah, he could be top drawer. Shame for him how consistent Matip was before injury was really costing him.

Great thing with the Liverpool lads is they are just so calm on the ball. That’s what the rest bar Maguire lack.

Stones has it, but he has the positional sense of a fish in a car park.

Gomez is great on the athletic side, and **** me, I could probs turn pro learning from Virgil. Virgil is a one of a kind. Pure footballer, good at everything.

Probs be a top goalkeeper the kid. Daft. And we could have had him here a year before he went Southampton.
