Gem of the Norfolk coast. Bar none!
Fantastic result in the first cricket ODI today. England won by over 200 runs <yikes>
In the process, they broke records galore, including the first score (in 50 overs) of over 400 - in England and by England. New record 7th wicket partnership (Rashid / Buttler). And most 6s by Eng in a one-dayer.
Hard on the heels of two of the most enthralling test matches of recent years, I'm not missing football - overly much.
(Though the new fixtures are out a week tomorrow :emoticon-0140-rofl: )

Well played England - after a woeful world cup showing only a couple of months back <ok>

A totally different mind set and approach to the debacle of the world cup. Will it last? I sincerely hope so. And they played a proper spinner, not a batsman that can bowl a bit. Why was Rashid, and Wood and Lythe, totally overlooked in the Carribean?
 
We picked completely the wrong team for the World Cup. We need to stop think of the three forms of the game as leading into one an other. They're different sports and we should pick different players. Some may be good at both but we shouldn't shoehorn players in because they're in the test team.

And not to forget Adil Rashid, who sat and watched / carried drinks in the recent Caribbean tour <doh>
69 brisk runs - including helping forge a new world record 7th wicket partnership, and followed that up by taking 4-55 with the ball.
I'd have given him MOTM, after 6 years in the international wilderness, but Buttler and Root were equally deserving - Buttler more so, in the view of the Sky commentators <ok>

Chuffed to bits for Rashid. Was also peeved he didn't get an opportunity in the Caribbean.

And to echo what goldeneadie said earlier. In the upcomimg Ashes I really hope we go with an established spinner like Rashid who offers more variety in their bowling, and has shown he can bat at No.8, as opposed to Mooen Ali who can do a 'job' as a spinner but is better known for his batting.
 
As a Yorkshire cricket fan I love it when our players are picked to represent England, but with six players, only two of whom played, in the Carribean at the start of the season, the selectors were taking the pis5. What was this point of taking Lythe, Rashid and Wood and completely ignoring them. I was born in White Rose Cottage is my Yorkshire link.

Agreed. He has far more variations that Moeen, who let's face it, until he took some wickets against India last year, was deemed more of a 'change' bowler. Rashid has a slider, a wrong'un as well as conventional leg breaks. Clearly knows which end of that piece of willow to grasp hold of, too <ok>
To accommodate both would suggest the omission of Ian Bell, which many would deem a bit harsh :emoticon-0112-wonde

I have no connection with Yorkshire but have supported then since I was a boy because my fav players were Johnny Wardle and Fred Trueman. Like Arsenal in football I have always admired the way they have tried to bring youngsters through the ranks and the current crop are just what England needed in their time of need.

What?

I was born in Stamford house and there was a bridge nearby, therefore I'm a Chelsea fan.
 
In the absence of Norfolk having a county championship side I've always followed Yorkshire as 'my cricket team'. My dad worshipped Geoffrey Boycott (he even campaigned for me to be named after him, but my mum wasn't having it) and before him Freddie Trueman, and in the proper tradition I followed in his footsteps.

Martin Moxon was more my era growing up as Boycs was just about finishing, shame he didn't have a better test career, but I'm loving seeing the latest generation doing so well at the moment, particularly Rashid who I've been calling for for years <ok>
 
I was a massive Gooch and John Lever fan as a boy so Essex for me I'm afraid. Pity they have been garbage since about 1990.

Rashid has to replace Moeen Ali for the tests. What has killed us recently is a lack of any form of plan B when the ball is not moving around or if Andersen has a bad day at the office. Our pace attack has no blistering pace or variation and so once the shine has been knocked off the ball we are in trouble. I think that Broad and Andersen are still very good test bowlers but what we miss is the guile and class of Swann and someone capable of knocking a batter on his backside like a Flintoff

Mooen isn't a test class bowler, but I think in the unlikely event he gets his chance, you'll see that Rashid isn't either. He's too slow through the air and doesn;t get enough zip and bounce off the pitch to worry top batsmen. He may do a fair job of polishing up the last couple of wickets with his googly against the tail, but I can see the Aussies in particular really going after him.
We didn't know how lucky we were to have Swann.
