Holt is just too old to be considered. 11 goals is a decent return but he hasn't done it over a consistent period at that level and it's hardly Alan Shearer territory! This close to a tournament you might take a chance with one or two promising kids but not someone who will be aged 32 or 33 for World Cup 2014 - I don't think there's any chance that he will get a look in, whatever the merits, and I think he's way down in the pecking order anyway. Danny Graham has got four years on him and has only scored one goal fewer in three less games!
Not making the point for Holt or anyone else but with the amount of friendlies that are fitted in mid season then it does suprise me that more 'outsiders' dont get the chance. I know the FA are clueless but even they must know how the likes of Gerrard/ Rooney/ Milner .... play together. It annoys me that they would still rather take the likes of beckham, who hasnt played competitive football in 10 years but wont give chances to new/ more obscure players who have done well in the premier league. Onto Holt himself and you could make a point that there is a need for a 'big man' to have a chance with the national squad. You have Crouch, Rooney, Cole and Zamora as the only recognised player in that role and most of them have failings. Crouch has no strength, Cole is in the championship, Zamora inconsistant. I know Holt isnt a true big man and has more to his game than that aspect but I cant think of too many ahead of him for the role.
