Adkins didn't fancy him much either. Under Mauricio, we play high intensity football so you have to be motivated and super fit. Sounds like he isn't putting in the effort. Perhaps he is one of those players that is talented enough to coast in an easy league..the PL isn't one of those. Out on loan seems the best option. It was raised in the presser yesterday that Tadanari was doing well in Japan...glad to hear it..I doubt he'll return, but may get a transfer.
but he doesnt? why are you all arguing for a lazy player (apparently) has put on weight and enjoys collecting his pay packet. We don't need that at southampton we want players who work hard. So yeah, by being lazy and uncommitted he is crap.
When we signed him, he was one of Africa's brightest prospects. Technically very gifted, but mentally lacking it would seem. To call him crap is just wrong though.
It always made me laugh how people rated him so highly without ever seeing him play, for me the fact he has hardly played pretty much says it all. Not good enough.
Okay maybe a bit harsh, I have seen very little to suggest he is technically gifted. He is very fast and has a decent finish! He was playing in the Swiss league, and the quality over there aside from 3/4 teams is very low indeed, and he was hardly prolific for BSC anyways.
Technically gifted, mentally lacking.....sounds a bit like another of our players who turned his game around and is now a regular Who can genuinely say Mayuka is rubbish with any authority if we haven't given him a long run in the side to see what he can or can't do. How many people said Jos, Bourc, Maya, J Rod couldn't hack the PL and are now having second thoughts. The Echo article, particularly the actual quotes from MP stated the obvious - my take on that is Mayuka hasn't played yet, and there are other players ahead of him and so he has to fight to get a place. Hardly comments that confirm he's not wanted. Perhaps Mayuka will be loaned out or maybe sold but at the moment i think as long as he accepts he's not going to be guaranteed a slot in the first team he is just as likely to stay and fight for his place. I hope so as I think he just might become a key player in a future team.
I actually stood up for Jay Rod, who was quality for Burnley last season. And Boruc who was immense for Fiorentina keepung i think 14 clean sheets. I watch a lot of football, and try to watch as many saints internationals as possible, but for Zambia he has been poor, mentally and technically. I just think that the prem is a cut above his standard.
âThere are other players available that have played so it just shows that he still needs to work to be able to get into the squad.â Sounds like an invite to me. The headline and this thread have misunderstood what the manager is trying to say, fitting a different story to the facts. I think he is saying work hard in training and you'll got your chance. He's trying to compare him to JRod who was frustrated at a lack of opportunities not that long ago. It probably won't work out, but you're all behaving like journalists i.e. 2+2=5.
No dig meant towards you RLSGM just generally wondering if Mayuka will end up proving his worth like a few others have done if he gets a little game time, and perhaps a bit of dig at the Echo for putting a negative spin on comments that any manager could have made about a squad player that's not a current first team regular.
Well, just my opinion of him this year. If he turns good, i won't be disapointed in anyway! I want him to bang them in for the Saints, but i just don't see it happening. Especially if we bring in more attackers this summer, which if we want to progress, we will! Jay Rod, has been given time all season, and it was evident he had something about him. With Mayuka other than a decent showing vs Spurs, he has disapointed me immensely
What you are saying is actually supported by SKD (on Player). He said that Mauricio involves everyone in training and makes them feel part of the team. He added that the players always believe that they may get their chance if they work hard.
Exactly what I said in the 'worst signing nuder Leibherr/Cortese' thread. He isn't the worst in terms of talent but has done SFA. 2 managers have not deemed him good enough to appear and other poor purchases (De Ridder/Lee) have made contributions to the team. Some (De Ridder/Lee/Sharp scored vital goals. Sharp wasn't a poor purchase. 1.8m to get us promoted is cheap. Not good enough for the Prem I feel BUT he did the job we bought him for. For Mayuka's wages he needs to go and be replaced by someone who has a chance of being a squad player. Preferable someone who doesn't disappear every January IMO. I can see a lot of ACON players not being signed up in the future. No point signing a player who will not be available through January.
Sounds like MP is trying to light a fire under Mayuka's ass as opposed to saying he is crap. I think if he just didn't rate Mayuka he would have gone on loan like the others to get a last chance to showcase his talents. Hopefully for Saints but at least for other clubs. Maybe it works, maybe not. But at least we can hope. Even De Ridder has played more than Mayuka recently so I tend to believe it's true that there is something up with his attitude.
Mp is having to watch his words because Mayuka has a massively long contract...doh. No point in making him unplayable, unsellable etc. We just have to hope he either gets his act together or someone wants to take his contract of our hands. De Ridder getting game time ahead of him definitely shows that he is not good enough for Saints (as we were let alone as we are now or want to be next season onward.)
If MP thought Mayuka was that bad he wouldn't have said anything. Saints have no shortage of players on loan because they probably aren't good enough and MP has said nothing about them. The way he singled out Mayuka there is no doubt he was trying to send a message. We'll see what happens. I feel like if it was merely a first warning, then Mayuka will be on the subs bench and will probably play against Reading to show the carrot as well as the stick. If MP was serious, I feel like Mayuka will have to make an appearance sometime in the next 3-4 games as reward for working harder, or he won't worker harder and then he's done.
What this has shown is that it easy to lose things in translation. His words are repeated in a monotone and, although he sometimes corrects the interpreter, misunderstandings may happen. We know this from forums...something written in words without the advantage of inflections can be misinterpreted.
It wouldn't supprise me to see Mayuka getting on the teamsheet for the last mathces of the season if we have secured safety by then.
