Might sound harsh but I don’t think he’s good enough. He must be about 23 now? So not going to improve much more and he’s hardly set the world alight when he has played. Don’t really understand the contract extension. Hope he proves me wrong and does well for Blackpool.

This is spot on, it is a far better way to show support for the player, and safeguard the clubs interest, Elliot is a fine player and at his best offers so much more than what we have seen this season, he has been out injured for a long spell and may not get back to his best for some time, but if and when he doest he would be one of the first names on our team sheet.

Do you think we should abandon all commitment to our youth policy, abandon Hume for instance, if he doesn't hit the ground running in a few marginal appearances, as we did previously with Robson, Watmore, etc., give your head a shake man. If Embleton proves you wrong and plays well for Blackpool it will be to our benefit and his, due to the contract you seemingly don't understand..

I just don’t rate him mate and neither seemingly do a succession of managers (Ross, Parkinson and now Johnson) who see him in training every day. He’s looked very ordinary in the smattering of games he’s played for us. I don’t see getting rid of a 23 year old who’s been in and out of the first team for 2 years as “abandoning all commitment to the youth policy”.

He does not look very ordinary to me, I think he has real quality and huge potential, that's all I can say. Some sources give his age as 21 but to me I dont think it is relevant one way or the other,

Think he might be only 21 mind. But, whatever he is, now should be time for him, though some players just need time or games. Or both.

But surely Johnson must see something in him otherwise he'd of let go completely ;)

He's only 21, did very well on his previous loan at Grimsby, has played 36 times for the England youth team. He's still quite raw but it's obvious to me there's talent there (how many players are completely two footed?) and a loan will do him the world of good if he gets plenty of games.

It's just unfortunate for him that his position at Sunderland is well stocked with players further ahead of him. If he was a RB he'd have probably played every game this season.

Did we miss him on Saturday?
Blackpool lost 2-0 at Ipswich, the BBC mentioned him:
Blackpool went close early on as Marvin Ekpiteta's header went wide and James Husband's stooping effort just failed to find the target before a corner by Elliot Embleton was met with a hooked volley by defender Jordan Thorniley.

A long-range shot by Embleton was then beaten away by Ipswich goalkeeper Tomas Holy.
