Three teams could leapfrog us in one game. It's nice being 12th but as mentioned we're only 4 points from relegation zone.

Was it just me or was anyone else embarrassed when watching MOTD on Saturday and at the of the highlights it zoomed in on a fan chanting "We are staying up, say we are staying up?"

It struck me that non Saints fans will feel we're a little bit desperate! Yes, it was a big win and yes, it will no doubt help maintain or Prem League status but do we really need to be singing this? We're not embroiled in a relegation battle, in fact even before this game most of us were looking forwards, not backwards down the table.

Come on people, let's have some positivity in our chanting, especially when the cameras are right on us!

I think you need some support, Lambertissier. You know what[?], I nearly posted a similar message the other evening, but couldn't be bothered to defend the fallout. I find that song slightly embarrassing too, under the present circumstances. Perhaps it's because I've never felt, that despite our proximity to the relegation zone, we were/are in any real danger of being relegated. Saints fans still aren't as ambitious or expectant as the club they support yet. On the whole, we're way behind the players, staff and, above all, the chairman. You can ask various posters who have PM'd my opinion and I tell them - don't worry, Saints are too good. But let's say Saints were relegated - it would come as an absolute jaw dropping shock to me but they'd be back up stronger and better the next season. I'm confident Saints will finish midtable-ish and, to be honest, I'm staggered that significant other supporters aren't as confident as I am on this. Nice to know for sure there's at least one.

There seems to be 2 views: one group is embarassed because they don't consider we are at risk of relegation and the other is embarassed because we are still at risk of relegation. I shouldn't worry...virtually no one else in the football world took any notice.

Thanks SecondStain, appreciate the back-up; glad I wasn't alone in thinking that! Here's to the the positive thinking Red Army!

Downthe36-haha, you're not wrong! I nearly posted that but thought it might be someone from here and i'd be shot down in flames; looks like that might have been the easier option!!

COYR!!

I have felt confident all season that we would stay up, but to be embarrassed about another fan singing that is ridiculous, we are 4 points from relegation and in no way dead certs.

A lot of people in the itchen were singing we are staying up at the end. I was one of them!

It's not about a lack of confidecne in staying up, it's about celebrating a win that is another step towards it. Sometimes I don't understand people; next week, I'll just politely clap the team off the pitch.

Oh and while we're at it, who is going to slag of Jos for his over zealous punching of the air at the end of the game. What was wrong with him, has he no confidence we'll stay up.... yes, I know it's daft; almost as daft as posting that we shouldn't sing about staying up.

Some people worry too much about "being cool"

What is the difference between fans chanting "We are staying up" when it's not certain and singing "we are going up" last season when it wasn't certain? No one called that embarrassing then.

I just think most of us would be pretty surprised if we went down this year. Not saying its not possible, but to me singing that song when most of us are confident that we won't be relegated just doesn't fit. (Not getting involved in the 'cursing things' argument!)

Each to their own but you won't catch me singing that. Having been a season ticket holder for many years I've sung it a lot back in the day, but this season just feels different.

Agree or not, I still found it cringeworthy having it aired on MOTD for all to see!

I bet the QPR fans aren't singing it tonight, 3 - 1 down against Fulham at half time, maybe things will improve before full time.

Ooh, I wish I had thought of that retort.
