If I was a bit younger I would be working on it. But I am not expending time and energy to make a fortune for my kids to get all the enjoyment from. I would find a cure for the common cold and cure world poverty and bring about world peace but for the same reason.

Admirable sentiments.

But back to the first car I owned, battery and dynamo. The thing I drive now has all the toys, battery and alternator. But when driving, the power usage by all the gizmoes precludes charging the battery. Only with the engine idling.

Battery powered tools are unbelievable from ten years ago. Manufacturers are increasing the amp/hour capacity without altering the dimensions of the battery casing.

There must be uber think tanks throwing their collective specialities at larger and longer storage for generation in an industrial scale.

So to summarise ... if you want to be warmer than the ambient temperature, be able to see in the dark or move quicker than your own legs can take you ... you will kill the planet in one way or another. We are all doomed.

But we are having green policies thrust upon us wether we want them or not, in some cases at great cost.

Yes, because some people just love to control and restrict everybody. If they can adopt a holier than thou demeanour and raise money whilst doing it all the better.
I look forward to Prince Charles, Amal Clooney, Bono et all arriving at a conference in their private jets to lecture the rest of us on our carbon footprint and the evils of capitalism.

I know I might get shot down here but supposedly the worst effect for the environment was the burning of the amazon jungle (to make way for farming land) at least double the co2 then all the modes of transport in the world.
Cue the guns
Not only the Amazon but south-east Asia too.

The way I see it is that you are all taking the wrong road (pun intended) we need less cars (or vehicles per se) off the roads altogether, not more simply because they are electric. Our roads certainly need trimming down of vehicular use, our one major road, in and out of Hull, doesn't need much to bring it to a total halt, causing gridlock in and around Hull. The M25, 6 lanes in each direction in some places, crawls to a halt frequently, I do believe flying cars are now a reality not a sci-fi scenario, but that's another nightmare in the making. Sorry folks, the nettle has to be grasped at some point, less vehicles on the road not more, or no one will be going anywhere fast, and more road building, certainly, in our neck of the woods, doesn't seem to be an option.

I've just skimmed this thread, I'm certainly not going to actually read it cos it looks dull as ****; although I'll fill the lad's survey in when I'm sober enough, but I've one question.

And it's this.

How the **** am I supposed to tow a tonne and a half of caravan with a ****ing milk float?

I knew there had to be some benefit of having electric cars.
