How are Labour doing after their first 12 months

I have to say, when I was last in the UK a few months ago, I was shocked by the ****ing explosion in ****ty US fast food places. Retail parks were packed with them.

****e like that is not helping local British businesses that's for sure
Thing is mate it's not even cheap anymore from what I hear. I'm a bit old fashioned and one of the few people left that don't order fast food. I'd admit to going in pubs and ordering food, but that's because I want to give them my money, use them or lose them and I'm not just talking Spoons here.

People can't keep hiding behind past governments.

Labour have had two years to help out hospitality, but instead they just keep increasing their financial burden, Reeves dosen't care about them, because I expect when she goes out to eat like Starmer they use an upmarket establishment.

It shows something is wrong with this country when every prime minister or person aiming to be prime minister is a ****ing millionaire. Sir Keir Starmer or people like Farage getting bungs of £5M, Sunak before them.

I've seen businesses grow if the effort and will power is put in, so I don't accept the destruction of our hospitality sector or High St's - Online is not cheap, it's just lazy and convenient, fast food has proven how lazy we have become, we should be encouraging change.

We've seen an increase in mental health problems a lot of this will be down to our self destruction in means of socialising.

Even our elderly use to get out, to the post office, to the supermarket caffe or tea shop on the corner. We've wiped it all out and replaced it with expensive brands and online payments, killing any exercise they did have.

Watching the Scottish votes coming in

apart from Shetland Islands I haven't seen a single seat were the SNP have increased their vote. They're really lucky the Unionist vote is split.

Rubbish ... been some great new initiatives from the US ... new burger chain "5 Thems" is cracking ... the Big Tofu on Rainbow Brioche is to die for...

I suspect if/when the SNP fail to win a majority, that bald bloke Flynn will challenge Sweeney for SNP leader

2 pubs are closing everyday, 161 pubs closed in the first three months of this year another 2,400 jobs lost. Labour have been in power for two years now and they have absolutely ****ed the hospitality sector with their policies.

"The scale of these closures is avoidable because pubs are doing a brisk trade, but their profits are wiped out by a disproportionate tax burden and huge costs,"

I don't agree that people will not socialise, they will if they can afford it (as per quote above) and Labour have certainly made it unaffordable. So **** off sneering on the sidelines prick.

Why you even here?

If ****s like you don't want to go in pubs anymore, then bring back smoking and let those that want to enjoy them do so.

It's decades of constant meddling in our culture, so that everything is health conscious and unaffordable. In short prohibition in all but name, tax the **** out of everything.
Think you have taken my comment the wrong way.

I’m not stating that Labour are doing better, but that fewer pubs are closing week on week now because there is now a smaller pool.

It’s right about how people socialise tho, people don’t head to the pub right after work as they did when I was late teens and early 20’s. My local has an after school colouring club to attract the Friday school pickup dads.

I find all these local election talks all a tad boring tbph.

They are totally meaningless in the grand scale of things. It gives you a reflection only on the current state of affairs, but in the main nowt more than protest votes, and there's a long time to fix that until the next election.

Personally Reform have peaked and gone too soon, this will not repeat in a General Election, the biggest risk would probably be from a coalition if it's anything close.

Just been listening to John McDonnell, the guy has grown on me, he says everything will be on the table when they meet, including the leadership, but he made it perfectly clear everything will be on the table to look where things have gone wrong, alluding that the leadership is only a small part of that and not that anything will necessarily change regarding Starmer's position.

My first and most important change would be Rachel at accounts, she aint got a ****ing clue what she is doing and is adding to the dole queue.

If they don't get her out soon or show change of direction the hospitality sector will be absolutely decimated, and we'll be left with places only the middle classes can afford or Spoons. Support your local businesses ffs, pull out all the stops for them.

Just read an article which said exactly this. Said when you scratch the surface it’s not quite the win thats being portrayed.

Nearly halfway through the results and this is how it stands.

Reform are cleaning up and Labour are fortunate not all seats are up for grabs with most councils otherwise they’d be running **** all locally. I agree with what brb said earlier, this is Reform peaking.

I can’t see anybody winning a majority at the next GE. The electorate is split and no party has any policy to clean up. Personally hoping the Tories can pull something out the bag, but two party politics in the UK is finally dead and I guess that is all something we should be happy about.

Labour have just been booted out of Sunderland after 50 years. This is very similar to the Tory collapse at the last local elections when you could see that their time had come.

Starmer needs to grow a backbone and resign to give Labour some sort of chance at regrouping and going again. He’s clearly hated all over the UK. He is more unpopular than Boris Johnson and that is saying something. He’s showing himself to be the selfish, arrogant, egotist that a lot of people called him out on years ago.

Going to be funny watching the SNP spin this as a huge win and another go at independence when their vote share has gone down in most places.

It's gone significantly down too, but they're not as thick as they look and sound, they know for a fact they're never winning the Tory seats and those seats are absolutely needed to win a majority which is needed for a referendum.

They also say **** like "voting SNP is the only way to get a referendum" so when they fall short and the Greens win some seats, they have ANOTHER excuse to say "ah, well, not this time then"

They give themselves two massive get out of jail cards and almost ensure they will never call for another ref.

I like the voting system in Wales, it's more democratic.

The one in Scotland is nonsensical.

FPTP for Westminster is just ****.

London council elections are interesting in the "Peoples' republics" .
Specifically how Labour will fare against the Iran 1979 tribute act.

Looks like Labour have lost Waltham Forest
(which means Creasy will be gone as MP) .

The fact Kemi Badenoch came out today genuinely celebrating these results as a major victory is just ****ing incredible considering they've done just as, if not worse than the ****ing Labour Party.
