How are Labour doing after their first 12 months

  • Total voters

Polls are so cool to look at right now. Knowing the UK I think things will calm down just before the election, as usually happens.

But I don't think the UK has seen such insane polling like this probably since
Thatchers time. When the Labour vote split between them and the SDP.

If anyone is concerned about the methods used they should become vegetarian, and don't forget the milk that's added to your tea, results in some calves being surplus to requirements and culled.

Well and ask a woman what it feels like when they have a breastfeeding child and they start to get too full... It can be quite uncomfortable until some of it comes out.

Cows don't seem to complain, but they've been selectively bred to produce far more milk than needed to raise a calf.... I would suspect they have to be in quite a bit of discomfort every day before milking time.

Some cows can hardly walk due to weight of the milk.

If anybody in the UK is doubting why Unions and worker's rights protections are so important....

US government workers received an email on Saturday afternoon asking them to list their accomplishments from the past week or resign - the latest development in the Trump administration's efforts to scale back the federal workforce.

The email came after Trump's billionaire confidante Elon Musk posted on X that employees would "shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week".

"Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation," he wrote.

Some politicians who speak about leaving the ECHR hide that workers rights are well protected in that.

I'm at a bit of a loss with you on this...they have a union, so I'm not really sure of your point. I've also seen this happen to British workforces, also with unions, not quite in the manner Musk is announcing it, but done just the same, and the outcome of it is you generally end up keeping the worst people for the job who are able to write a load of bolloxs.

I’ve never seen anything like this in the UK. We have employment laws that state if a job is redundant, then there’s procedures that are followed, which usually mean a notice period followed by redundancy pay.

I might be wrong; but I’ve never seen an example where somebody outside of an organisation has said email me what you achieved last week and if you don’t I’ll take it as a resignation.

I know there are unions in the US, but they seem to be pretty toothless

and I also said not quite in the same manner as Musk. And when you talk about toothless unions, again we have an example, the lack of support for the Farmers Union, it seems we only support unions when it suits us. <laugh>

In March 2022, P&O Ferries announced the redundancy of 800 employees using email, text message, and video call. The company's decision was met with widespread criticism.

How were the redundancies announced?
  • The redundancies were announced abruptly, with no prior warning.
  • The employees were told that their employment was terminated "with immediate effect".
  • The redundancies were intended to replace the crews with cheaper agency labor.

And thanks to concerted action by the RMT, the employer was forced to reverse their decision.

My point was that it happened, and those in America are covered by a union the same. Whether they have any clout is another matter.
