Who the **** is remotely interested in voting at 16?
If, at 16, that is a concern of yours, that you want to be able to vote.....then you are doing it wrong. Life I mean.
At 16 my only concern was that I had enough beer and weed money for the weekend and which piece of tail I was trying to bang.
First time I voted I was in my mid 20's

If they are expected to pay in then they should have a say imo

Took me 26 years to vote

So the first time you voted was today?
I cant really say much, I was 23 I think when I first voted.
But I can say with extreme certainty, that bar the very rare exception, being able to vote is the farthest thing from the minds of 16 year olds in Britain.
My 13 year old daughter asked me the other week if I voted Republican or Democrat ffs.
I daresay most teens get their political "knowledge" from Youtube shorts or their favourite Tik Tok'ers.
I think 18 is adequate.

I think this election night cause serious discussions about our electoral system tbh, I guarantee there are folk voting Reform reckoning they have a chance to win a **** ton of seats. They'll be livid when it's like 2.

Then you have the possibility Labour win a historic landslide with a mediocre vote share.

Lest we forget Davey might match Cleggs seat numbers with 10% of the vote.
 
Even if they changed the age for voting to 16, some 16 year olds will have to wait until they are 20/21 before they can vote in a GE. So if they are 15 now and 16 on Monday (8th) they will have to wait 4-5 years until the next GE...the only difference would be they can vote in local elections.

In regards to my own personal view, I see changing the voting age to 16, much like I see trying to change the way we vote (PR) it suits one party (Labour), so as always there is an agenda behind it.

I was saying this yesterday, Reform are predicted to pick up 15% of the vote, but only gain 3 seats, while Lib Dems will get 72 lol

Its hard to get your head around, but in my mind its the fairest way to do it, voting for MPs and then the party with the most seats takes it.
Its an odd one because half the people who voted Tory in 2019 are now going to vote either Labour, Lib Dem or Reform.
I think there is a chance Reform get a few more seats than people are forecasting, but it will be under 10, and they will likely all be gained from Tory seats.
Lib Dem I think will get around 50-60 or so seats, again, all gains from Tory seats and the red wall will rebuild itself.
I dont think Labour will get a 200+ majority, but certainly 150 or more is likely.
It will be nice to see the SNP get their arses kicked as well. Grubby little splitters!!

I wont be voting today I've other plans after work.
 
Don’t see how lowering the voting age is an agenda to suit a particular party.

If you’re old enough to get married, pay income tax, pay road tax and use the public highways. Then you’re old enough to have a say about who runs the country

It's not the fairest way at all and it's functionally appalling for even more reasons than just 'fair votes'

If your MP is one of the ones to be selected for a pathetic junior minister position or something similar, you effectively do not have an MP. Whilst in for example, Norway and other countries, you have a "reserve" who represents your seat whilst you're gone.

Our system allows seats to go in all essence unrepresented.

There are so many people in the UK who think they have an excellent MP you've never heard of, and just as many who have never even seen their MP. What is this mess.

Then you have the fact that they parachute in popular people in the party, the Tory party is actually one of the better ones at controlling this, but even so parachutes in people they want to have a seat. Not the best person for an area, they can strong arm the local parties.

How is that different than a "list system" they have elsewhere? It isn't. It's functionally identical.

I really hate FPTP, it has to be said.

But I do think it's better than Alternative Voting like they have in France.

You have to be 18 to get married in the UK now. Law was changed last year.
And you would pay road tax because at 16 you can drive a moped, and at 17 a car.
I get it, if they pay they should have a say.
But I also 100% agree with brb that it would be agenda driven, and I also maintain that the vast majority of 16 year olds couldnt give nine ****s about whether they can vote or not.

Everything’s gonna start coming up roses mate. Country’s proper ****ed, obviously, and it will take years to unfuck it. But just waking up tomorrow to discover that carnival of ****s have been fired in the bin where they belong is a start.

England still in the Euros too, and the sun is shining here in London. So far, so good…
