While I've no problem with leaflets in multiple languages being done, as it's generally been the norm, particularly in the NHS. They should still be making the effort to speak English, as should anyone that goes to live in another country.

I just think it makes sense, like you say they do it for local councils, NHS, Post offices and most public services. I doesn't necessarily mean that people aren't trying to learn English, just that for important issues that affect people's day to day lives, it's good to communicate in a language that people understand.

Reform are just crying about it because they didn't think to do it themselves <laugh>

I think if you want to vote in this country the minimum that should be expected is that you speak the ****ing language, surely. Even if it's of a minimum standard.

But yeah if I lived abroad and spoke a language to a minimum standard, then yeah it's nice to receive a leaflet in your language and may angle you to vote for the party that does it.

Yeah I mean ideally you want to learn the language of the country you live in.

But if you're still learning and you only know how to get by, order a cab, ask for shopping etc, then complex issues like party policy is going to be challenging and it would present a barrier to understanding the issues fully.

Same reason they produce foreign language leaflets for the services mentioned above.

Still learning, how long they been learning. <laugh>

I've no issues with the leaflets, but this conversation clearly highlights a problem that some can't be arsed to learn the language and that's not acceptable. If people properly integrated this problem would easily be resolved by need to learn the language, but clearly integration is not happening as intended and like Bendorm you have swathes of people too ****ing lazy to integrate with the culture. Maybe we need to stop making excuses for them like overseas is demanding a crackdown on over tourism, and get our towns and cities back to the cultures they are meant to be integrating with as well as wlecoming new cultures, but there has to be bare minimuum standards here. While you are having a pop at Sucky sometimes in his roundabout way he has a point.

Depends how long you've been here I guess

My father in law lived in Poland for 20 years and only knew how to order a beer <laugh>
Well you know and I know that's not acceptable.

I know we like to laugh it off, but it leads to problems, much like Benidorm where the English try and turn it into home and then it gets to a stage where it's gone too far and becomes nothing but a ****hole. Then Spain are having to implement fines around behaviours for things such as inappropriate dress and being drunk. It's an embarrassment.

I think with future acceptance of immigration claims, that language is going to be part of the requirements.

I use to think when I was young that old people just couldn't learn new languages, much like teaching an old dog new tricks, I now know well into my 60's that is not actually true, and whatever age you are you can learn a new language if you made the effort. Albeit some languages are more difficult than others.

Btw I'm speaking in general, not this recent election area that's in the news, that the Greens won.

They've been producing foreign language leaflets, info pamphlets, signs, etc in the NHS, Post Office, Local Govt, Underground, etc for donkey's years.

It's only now that Reform have lost this election to the Greens who produced some campaign leaflets in Urdu that they've decided to wet their knickers about it <laugh>

Fuking Urdu ffs

Piss off back there if you can’t talk English imo

Fully agree - if I went to live in France, I'd learn French ... same if going anywhere else ...

Whilst I'm not against legal (controlled) immigration, I do believe one of the conditions for anyone settling here is to attend a basic English course before moving into the wider community ... why would anybody intent on spending their lives here object to that?

Absolutely. Although Farage can **** off with his crying, his oversight if the Greens were smarter than him with the leaflets. Something I would appreciate as a national from overseas, even if I did speak the language.

Because we pay for interpreters so they can still claim benefits

Don’t mind the Urdu thing on the face of it. Enoch Powell learned Urdu to speak to be able to speak to his constituents a million years ago.

The actual content of the Urdu bits was basically “we’re the Gaza Party, vote for us to stick it to the Jews and Modi” and left out any Green policies which might not go down brilliantly with very conservative Asians. I’m paraphrasing slightly. Smart, not illegal but a bit disingenuous.
