I agree with your sentiments, although it got me thinking, isn't all military occupation a form of dictatorship.

Anyway to avoid boring people and to cut a very long story short, I pulled out two paragraphs...
The only place I’ve reported from that has felt this closed and oppressive for journalists is Myanmar, which is also controlled by a military regime, although, unlike the SBAs, it has a nominally elected legislature.
Like so much on British Cyprus, the truth is covered up, obfuscated, or distorted, so unaccountable agencies can go about their work without any democratic oversight. It’s a feature common to military regimes from Egypt to Myanmar. And it’s no different in Britain’s own military dictatorship in the Mediterranean.
There must be all kinds of shady shenanigans that go on under the guise of military presence. Even when it’s agreed that the military should be there.
The UK are only in Cyprus because of our colonial past, and I guess you could say the same about Denmark in Greenland. The US have been invited to have a military presence in Greenland, so it’s not a military occupation in the usual terms, but I wonder with Trump and Vance making thinly veiled threats about ‘we don’t see the need for a military solution’ for the US to annexe Greenland, it might end up being a version of an occupation, even if they were invited to be there in the first place.

I expect Cyprus is logistically convenient for us to keep some hold on, wasn't the aid for Gaza coming via Cyprus, when they were considering doing them floating pontoons, wtf ever happened to that idea.

For some reason Brits and Americans think they are free because they have the right to vote in a so called democracy, well that democracy has changed a lot in my time alive on this planet and Big Brother is watching us all the time now, and what does our right to vote give us, the right to choose the next set of lunatics in charge.
Those supposed freedoms lead me onto....she deserved her time, and she will serve her time, but I'm afraid for me the right to free speech has long been silenced, and not just in Greenland.

Yeah Cyprus is absolutely key for UK interests in the middle east. Pretty sure loads of our Tornados were launched from there during the Iraq wars.
Trump removing the Greenland US base commander isn't a surprise. And yeah Putin and Xi would do the same. Tbf if a commander of a UK overseas base was critical of Keir Starmer, it wouldn't be a good look. The military aren't really employed to give their opinion on domestic politics, they are there to carry out the orders of the defence secretary. I guess it's just the circumstances in Greenland that gives it an ominous overtone.
I hear what you're saying about democracy, in that we're given a choice between one set or another set of people who largely do the same thing. But I wouldn't underestimate the dangers of actually losing the democratic process. Because you would end up with a situation like Putin, where one man calls all of the shots and removes anybody who dares to criticise him. I think Trump models himself on Putin to be honest, which is probably why he acts like such a little loved up girl around him

And all he's saying is that considering that there's a big Muslim community in the UK, then naturally you'd want to see people from those communities represented across all of the different jobs and parts of society in the UK.
Why have you got such a problem with this bro ? Do you want all of the jobs to only go to white people, and blacks, muslims, asians etc not be represented ?

Muslims are not going to support Cameron's call though are they, because of his and the 'anglican' Tories pro Israel stance. So it's a non starter anyway.

Now I know and you know that change comes about through the influence you can create through Parliament, ie via a political party, but it must be very difficult for muslims to support an anglican party that supports Israel.
So unless Cameron and the Tories are willing to change their stance on Gaza, he's chatting absolute ****, other than trying to make himself sound good and supportive of muslims, while he's in a party that demonstrates doing the complete opposite.

I hear what you're saying. I think the video is quite old, probs from when he was PM.
And I think he's talking about Muslims being represented across all sorts of different top jobs in the UK, banking, finance, education, politics, military, health etc as for the size of the population, they are underrepresented in those jobs. I think he's really just alluding to inclusivity across the UK
So whilst the arms to Israel would likely be an issue for Muslims (and I think like you say, they'd rather be lobbying for change from within parliament being represented as MPs) I think the wider point he's making, they would get behind, i.e. being represented in the top jobs across the UK.
