That's nonsense, if Ashley had tried to change their name to Newcastle Magpies and scrapped concessions, they would not still be filling the ground.

They had a sponsorship deal rejected by the league and it cost them a £3m fine, nothing like £42m fine QPR got, or the much more dodgy Derby and Wednesday ground deals. I don't think there's much doubt that they're currently the best owners in English football.

Newcastle fans have staged walkouts, and Ashley renamed St James' Park to 'Sports Direct Arena'. I think this idea that Newcastle fans don't like Ashley because they think they should be challenging for top 4 is bollocks. I'd say they just want the same things we do i.e. an owner that gives a **** about the club.

He ****ed up with changing the stadium name, changed it back and apologised, there's no measure by which he's anywhere near as bad as the Allams..

Depends how that is measured, but in terms of overall financial position (due to FFP), young squad etc then I have to agree, but lets not forget this was an absolute fluke.
Firstly, they decided long ago that they were not investing their own money into the club. That was n't through any insight (didn't Papa blame it on the fans voting 'No'?). FFP comes along and actually restricts how much owners are able to invest vs profit/loss.
Then we get relegated so spectacularly (due to their ineptitude) for the one season when income was dramatically slashed. Because of relegation, wages were slashed and we were able to get rid of deadwood. It gave us the opportunity to blood more younger players and allow them to gain experience and develop initially at a lower level, and in a successful team.
In terms of flukiness, this has to be unprecedented.
If I was them (awful thought). I'd be doing everything I could to be trying to undo the past. Start off by trying to get back some of those who have walked away and even more importantly, that younger generation they when concessionaries were abolished. Even an admission of past failings would satisfy some (but that has to be alongside actions which would suggest it was genuine).
However, what I would like to happen is that they use this unexpected opportunity to sell up.

Finally got round to watching the interview and thought it was pretty good, actually.. While I'd love us to be taking over by someone who wanted to invest more heavily in the club, really do think there are plenty of potential owners out there who would be far worse than the 2021 version of The Allams (wiser and better than the 2016 version) That interview made me think we're in safe hands financially, with a clear plan, and some very positive momentum on the field. Can't wait to go back and support this team.

I don’t think you can say it was all luck
What about the two teams who were relegated with us? They could slash wages etc
The teams already in the league had small similar budgets surely
The rich ones had bigger budgets, Sunderland so should have done better??
Our promotion was done by been successful professional and organised on and off the field
The only area the allams aren’t and seem unwilling to change is in pr
    And obviously don’t care
Which is madness but that’s them
I’m sure if we owned the club we would do this that or the other but you can be sure some ****s will be moaning whatever we’d do.

I think we are in a better position in pretty much every way bar the supporter numbers and supporter engagement... I don't think it's as big of a fluke as you make out, the last 18months events have just accelerated the benefits of what their business plan was trying to do.

The business plan of becoming a self supported/funded club by bringing through local youth and selling etc would have been absolutely loved/backed by almost all of it had been done by Adam Pearson for example... The fact it's being done by the Allams just automatically hurts it and it's exactly why I think it's best for all if they move on.

Believe it or not, it's also a business plan that a lot of other clubs are actively trying to implement and some have even met with people within club unofficially to look into it in more detail ( god knows why as it's a pretty straight forward plan ).

The allams will never be fully accepted after everything that's happened and that's their own fault, but even though they haven't apologised for the things over the years, over the last few years at least, it seems they have taken a more backseat and stayed out the limelight and just let the football side of things work which is great, the transfer business being done early, players tied down to contracts etc show they are learning in my opinion.

I don't really get the 'people are using the Allams as an excuse not to go' argument really in terms of the actual attendances.
As you say I'm sure some people who wouldn't be going for a range of reasons might find it easier to use the Allas as their main reason, even if it is only a part of it. (for some it is the sole reason, but not all)
However they are, to coin a phrase, irrelevant, because if they loved the owners they wouldn't be going anyway.
I think we've seen a bigger reduction than would be expected due to relegation alone, although I can't prove it, because some the things the owners have done have tipped some over the edge who would have stayed otherwise. In fact I'm sure that the case because I've been at the tipping point at the other end of that spectrum. They tipped me into cancelling my season ticket, which I then changed my mind about and re bought. Some will have been closer to the not going end and the owners tipped them into that group instead.

I think it is reasonably priced by the way, but I also know its relative and its easy for me to say that because I can afford it, some won't be able to sadly.

I certainly trusted Adam Pearson, simply because he delivered on everything he said he would from the off.

Bit of a contradiction there. You wanted McCann sacked because we got relegated and after our bad patches in league 1 ? I thought we won league 1 as champions ? When did we have a bad patch ? But 'too many people on here are quick to call Newcastle fans deluded because they think the sun shines out of Bruces arse' ? according to you.
Where did Newcastle finish in the Premier League ? Was it 12th ? Would they have finished any higher if the deluded Geordies had of got their way and had Bruce sacked in February/March when his squad was decimated with injuries ?
And hate is a strong word.

Came here with money from re mortgaging his house and borrowing from a very rich mate. Left a millionaire a few times over. He has every reason to love Hull City.

So you would have sacked McCann in February this year despite the team never having been lower then 4th ?

No, he didn't. The Wonga sponsorship bought the naming rights to the stadium and changed it back to St James' Park, not Ashley. Even a scummy payday loan company cares more about Newcastle Utd's history than that fat ****.

No, I'd have sacked him when we went down. I'll give him credit for getting us back up as champions but he still leaves a lot to be desired as a manager.

What the club achieved last season was fantastic. No luck about it. Something I have to give the Allams credit for is investing in the youth development. It was something that wasn't quite in sync with their 'selling up' claims. Had they been open about this, saying they want to develop young talent and allow the club to be closer to self sufficiency, then I suspect we could stomach that. As you say, their PR is rubbish.
    The incredibly lucky part is that relegation was when it was;

Other Championship teams wouldn't have been able to slash the wage bill for 20/21 season as we were able to (due to contracts).
We had no choice but to blood the youngsters. That would have happened whether we were relegated or not, for financial reasons. They would have found it far more difficult in the championship particularly in a struggling team. Would Greavesy/ KLP really go into 21/22 with a full season's experience under their belts?
Had relegation occurred in any other season, the pressure for Grant to go from the home support would have made his (and young player's) jobs far far more difficult.
Had we survived 2019/20, the general consensus was that we were only delaying the inevitable. By then that malaise may have made such a fantastic turnaround impossible.
Consequently the club go into 21/22 having had a chance to reset. We have of momentum and a young and hungry squad who arent scarred by the malaise.
Because our competitors have had to take drastic and unplanned cuts to their wage bill (due to Covid), we find ourselves as a mid spending team (re wages) following promotion. That wouldn't have happened under these owners any other season.
So I do feel we have been incredibly lucky with the timing. They should take advantage of that. Managed properly, this reset could provide a real opportunity for Allams to create some real momentum and a feelgood factor not seen since that era Pearson was able to generate. Are they really that thick that they can't see it, or is it just bloody mindedness? That is a reason why they continue to frustrate me.
