Really sorry to have to rant about this, but recently it has become more and more apparent as I read people's comment that a number of people need educating in the word LOSE.

"If Saints loose...." is incorrect, loose is the opposite to tight.

    "If Saints lose...." is correct.

I am so sorry to point this out and I feel like I am being a bit of an old grump pointing it out, but it grinds my gears that so many write it.

Feel free to add education on other incorrect word usage below, if you dont like this then please hit the dislike button and go to another thread as i dont wish to incite an arguement

My pet hate is where people put "would of", when it should read "would have"! Pedantry is easy, my spelling is attroshush because I only have one brain cell, which never registers 100% all of the time.

"Stricker" instead of "Striker" annoys me. It's the easy stuff where people shoul know better that grinds.

"Literally" died! Case in point. Its funny how people say "literally" when they mean the opposite. Unless, of course, joestinberg is actually dead in which case I offer my commiserations.

I hope you realise that was the joke. Wouldn't want people thinking I was stupid, that would literally kill me.

Grammar. I don't know if that was intentional.

Jamie Redknapp uses "literally" out of context seemingly every time he speaks - he's literally the worst pundit in the world.

I'm not going to take grammar and spelling lessons from someone whose name isn't capitalised and spaced appropriately.

To console myself, I put most spelling mistakes down to typos (we've all done it, though I try to go back and correct them), but have to agree that 'loose' instead of 'lose' does annoy me. I haven't mentioned it before, because I don't want to be the type of person who points errors out<whistle> I would like someone to answer one question: why are greengrocers the most atrocious spellers? They order supplies which must be invoiced to them and have the names printed on the boxes, yet they openly have blackboards demonstrating their ignorance. I have been known to wipe apostrophes off blackboards, but cannot change spellings unless I carry chalk with me. Now there's an idea.

Hey! Usernames aren't supposed to be. But now that you mention it, I might change it anyway.

You do know that some people have trouble spelling don't you? Not everyone in this wrold is good at it so try and be a little sensitive to differing capabilities of spelling. When i come on here i couldn't give a damn how people spell things as to be quite honest i've got slightly more things to worry about. The fact you have wrote this thread is embarrassing. Not arguing just saying maybe you should worry a bit less about trivial things.

One of the most important things you can do in your life is constantly seek to expand your own knowledge and try to better yourself in every way you can. You can either take this thread as an insult or as constructive criticism. On the other hand, it's important to have some humility and not become arrogant or elitist. Find a balance.

their and there seems to cause a fair amount of confusion.

Being a committed sesquipedelian, I am a fan of long words. We have the Roman writer Horace to thank for this.

Antidisestablishmentarianism has long been a favourite. Anyone else have any preferred polysyllabic offerings?
