To be clear I’m already in cyber security. But alcohol is fun, so here’s a quick case for what could’ve been without PSR:

Summer comes and we need to get in a first choice RW and replace Wilson for an important campaign in the CL. Without any wage restriction, we’ve moved very quick on Pedro and Mbeumo. Wages no problem, both sign. Isak, soothed by the moves, eases back on a move and signs a new deal. Galvanised, we then secure Thiaw and Ramsey for the depth in the squad and we can then move on to full back replacements. Woltemade doesn’t come but that’s not an issue and suddenly we have a very strong squad. So anyone including me lamenting Howe cannot be taken seriously.

Or in reality the club realise if they pay M’Buemo the £300k a week he wanted, Bruno, Tonali and the rat **** would be downing tools as the club don’t have the capacity to raise everyone more deserving the same pay scale.

Pedro was never coming as he wanted to stay in London and would never fit in a 4-3-3 as a natural striker.

Or in fantasy land we should have signed donaruma as a keeper, osimhen as spare striker, Vitinha for squad depth and Vinicius jnr as competition for a misfiring Gordon.

If only everything was as simple as fifa

That was exactly the point. Without PSR none of it matters. Wasn’t looking for an argument yet I find them with consummate ease!

From the outside it seems as though Howe puts a lot into things like loyalty, character and effort. As is evident a lot of that can work for you. Where I think problems appear is moving on and evolving, there’s this over reliance on players who just can’t do it and there’s a ruthlessness about the best managers that Howe doesn’t seem capable of. Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Pep, Klopp, Emery, they all seemed to know when it was time to change whether it was players like Keane, De Bruyne, whoever, they put the physical demands of the team ahead of those with a sunny disposition or a positive mental attitude. Howe did this a lot at the end of his Bournemouth time, players like Steve Cook would be in the team.

It just looks from the outside that we’ve a squad filled with Jacob Murphy’s. Nice lads but just not elevating the level of the team. Players I personally think should be starting for this era of Newcastle are Hall, Livramento, Botman, Tonali, Bruno and maybe Gordon. The rest are mid table or worse. Too much average that has cost too much. And I think we need a shot in the arm to say to players it is worth coming to Newcastle instead of earning a bench at Liverpool.

Asside from all the disadvantages Newcastle have regarding transfers we've got a manager with no pull whatsoever in Europe or South America. Nobody outside England even knows who he is. Oh erh Eddie what's his name again?

We need to make it easier and close the margins of disadvantage where possible.

I'd personally add Miley, Thiaw and Woltemade to your list of players (assuming we play the right way to get the best out of Woltemade.)

Even Burn in a back 3 and Ramsey when he has less defensive emphasis are good players - not top quality, but we're not going to be able to afford elite wages all round until we up the commercials anyway.

I'd also argue that character and effort are very important, but we have to find those traits in players with technical flair as well. If we go for technicality only then we'll just end up with a bunch of Temu Mbappés and Vini Jrs which will definitely Everton us...

See I think the likes of Miley, Thiaw are the level of subs we should have. Woltemade is a player you want if that’s how you play - Bayern do it with Kane, but Howe doesn’t change it’s the same style most of the time regardless of personnel. Burn is enough of a character and leader who i would definitely keep as you say in a back three or just to bring ethos and values, but we don’t then need a glut of OAPs in trippier, Lascelles and Schar.

Newcastle United will assess Eddie Howe’s position at the end of the season, @TEAMtalk understands, though the club currently have no plans to bring an end to his tenure and remain firmly behind their head coach

Reading the Eddie Howe thread on Newcastle-Online, you've got to think AyeDubbleYoo, Yorkie and Kid Icarus are relatives of Eddie Howe at this point, they simply won't have a bad word said about him, even defending his decision to play a strong team 2nd leg v Qarabag.

Strange old place over there.

We've reached a point in football where supporters get behind a man not the club or City. I can literally guarantee the same two probably blamed a previous manager for everything that went wrong including the weather.

I don't care about managers, because I don't think they matter as much as people think. If a change is needed for any reason just get it done, because it's just about freshening things up and making it feel new to the players also. They never change their decisions on player preferences and approach and over time dressing rooms split.. Favs vs non favs naturally.

Headline I saw before the arsenal v Man City Cup final was a question asking who needs this more pep or Arteta.... Not the players or fans... It's absolutely ridiculous.

Yea, you do get the feeling that some people are Eddie Howe fans above being NUFC fans, it's all a bit weird.

I just think his time has come to a natural end, i'm thankful for everything he has done.

The other issue is the fact the media are happy to see Newcastle falling away, so they'll not want a big name manager here.

Newcastle having Eddie Howe doesn't worry them and it feels OK for them, but the last thing they'd like to see managing the clubs they support is Eddie Howe... They'd want a more decorated manager, which is what I think Newcastle will need at some point.

The image of the club is the manager and our manager wears a puffer jacket and tight leggings... Nobody outside England really knows who he is, so our pulling power isn't being maximised ... It all adds up and we need to maximise advantages in all areas.

let Howe go on to see the season out, and if we don't make the conference get rid imo... Now is too soon, and it's important to make sure he's failed completely and we won't have to deal with all the excuses about psr and Isak being sold..

PSR and Isak being sold do not outweigh the fact he's had the 5th highest PL net spend over his tenure and the 5th highest spend last summer.

I don’t know if sacking EH is the wisest move right now. He’s about as good as I’ve ever known but is dealing with injured top players and a worn out squad. Two games a week has been more damaging to player fitness and league performances than I’d imagined.
We’ll reset in the summer.

Is Steve Bruce about to do as well as Rafa Benitez and Eddie Howe?
