Remember Gibbo running the Coventry midfield with Willie Carr in the old first division before he came to us. The pair of them demonstrated just what we lack right now - energy and aggression to win the ball and use it quickly.

I seem to remember Gibbo fell out with Jimmy Hill at Highfield and came to us as a result just before the Real Madrid game - I know he wasn't around for the Hamburg game a couple of years earlier. I can see the comparison, but he was a different player to Daehli, more physical but with the same touch to play others in.
 
IMHO Whitts in a 4-2-3-1 formation - two out of Adeyemi, Dikachoi & Gunner holding, Daelhi left, Noone right, Whitts central, KWJ starting up front. With the bench we've got plenty of room to manoeuvre if thing ain't wot they should be later in game.

That's what I'd do. Pilks can replace any of the front 3 behind KWJ and Macheda can play the front role.
 
Daehli should be playing for Norway v England tonight. A chance for him to shine on a bigger stage.

I'm not saying a big stage as the crowd is likely to be only 35/40k max.

If he does have a good one tonight, it's a good job the transfer window has just closed.

I think there'll be few suitors for his services at the end of this season whether we go up or not.

he needs to bulk up physically, and his best position given his eye for the pass is centrally, thats where he can do damage. in a 4-4-2 on the wing i think we are overrun in midfield when he plays……….out wide i think its a waste of talent anyway, and if its him or a more direct player like noone i'd play noone.

will OGS be bold and put him in behind a striker or two? i personally think he'll keep playing him wide but tucking in with bray ford overlapping&#8230;&#8230; against the weaker teams we will score goals but i think with stronger teams we need to change the tactics&#8230;&#8230;..<ok>

You are making some very good points. Thought about something you said earlier, you'd like to see him play the pass quicker, not deliberate so much. I was looking for a video i saw when he joined us to show how Oldsparkey is probably right about it being the system and players around him at fault. Here it is:

In this international match you see him play quick one touch football and make good split second decisions, key passes and final balls. The problem is City as a team move very slowly forward, many of our players are reluctant to make themselves available going forward. Against wolves we had 33% possession, 29% of our passes were played backwards. Ole should be working on this on the training ground if he wants to play this possession based attacking football he talked about when he was appointed manager. We haven't seen any of that yet.

When will we see a change?

Norwich will be a tough test. They will feel they owe us one after battering us last season and coming away with nothing. We really need to see a major change in the way we play if we are going to have any chance of getting out of this league.

It's one heck of a stage for him. The press are saying Norway are rubbish; they may be bit England aren't much better.

Hope he plays well, not too well though as he'll be a January window target!

True, but other clubs are well aware of him. The echo said a number of PL clubs and foreign clubs have made enquiries, Dalman turned everyone down.
I know England are poor but Norway are even worse so I think its gonna be hard game for him.
 
yep, he's playing. On the right side of a front 3 on the line up. In reality on the right of a mid 5. Seems tidy enough.

Despite everything that's been said about Whitts on here and elsewhere, there was never any doubt that Ole will stick with him for these next two home games.

I'd like him to have a couple of stormers and help us put another 6 points on the board - nothing (very little anyway <laugh>) would give me greater pleasure.

The enigma that is Whitts. Obviously I can't comment on every performance but I always thought he put 100% in. The problem is he doesn't look as if he is because of his demeanour and lack of pace. He's never going to be world class and never going to win a full England shirt unless it's in a raffle. But he has served us well over 7 years. So my question is, how will Whitts be remembered by you guys? When he eventually retires from the game.
