Back to the main topic, I would be really surprised if Southgate dropped JWP as he is the captain and probably one of the most experienced EPL players in that squad.
I have seen him play for the U21's a few times both live and on TV and he does look very competent at everything he does...including scoring!

Koeman says all players should play at the U21 tournament, if asked.

Said he understands they need a holiday, but they'd still get 3-4 weeks and these tournaments are at the highest level for people of their age, and they should play in them whenever they can.

Unless I've missed something, can't see anything offensive. Godders did his usual abrasive bit, but I took it as a joke reply (though could have been taken as personal because of the word bullshit). The quote about teaching is a common one, so that wasn't offensive....though being the best at something, doesn't mean you are the best teacher and vice versa.

Anyway, I came on here to post a positive message. Hodgson says that Kane wants to play in the under 21s, which is good to hear.

It was in jest yes. Like you say it's a common expression/joke, didn't mean to cause offense. I know plenty of teachers also and they have it tough.

Still some people could do with taking a course on expressing themselves in a non-confrontational way.

I'll wind them up some more. :) I was a research scientist and at parties tended to mix with graduates many of whom were teachers. An often heard cry of dismay on entering a party was, 'Oh no, a lot of teachers here tonight.' Somehow we managed to talk about general topics that didn't include organic chemistry, animal studies, or medical cases, but teachers only talk about teaching.

Stands back by the door. <laugh>

Well, I am a teacher and I hardly ever talk about it. <whistle>

Mind you, there is a common misunderstanding about teaching, which is that the higher the level of student, the harder is the job of teaching them. In fact, the reverse is usually true. Trying to get a class of 17 year old would-be mechanics to even appreciate the need for Literacy and Numeracy skills, let alone actually managing to worm some of the information into their brains (such as they are) is far more taxing than a lesson with the same age group of A-Level students who, to some degree, are self-motivated.

There, that's it....no more teaching talk!

Amazing how these threads can go off on a tangent. I blame others :)
