Yes was great fun watching him play - I remember watching the reserves at Staplewood one day with big Dave in goal. At one point he borrowed a fan's big foam hand and wore it while the game was going on..Classic entertainment!
Don't get me wrong, I'd be ****ting bricks if Bart stayed and played in the Prem BUT I have a fond (? false) memory of him in a FA Cup match against Newcastle. We lost it but it was one of the few games following relegation that gave me hope. He played ruddy well if I do remember.. Of course there is the classic 1976 Ian (where's my goal?) Turner 20 mins of madness at the start of the cup final. He meant to leave the woodwork hitting shots apparently.
This may come as a surprise to several but Bart is only 24..! And he was Saints longest serving player of the current squad until his release. Good keeper who put in some excellent vital performances over the last 6 years.
Agreed. He was probably the best prospect as a keeper than anyone and in my opinion anytime ever. Up until his injury, as a teenager, he was outstanding...yet most keepers get better with age and here he was at 18 and 19!! Ever since that fateful Newcastle game (blunder/injury) he was never to be the same again. I wish Bart well.
I can't believe that there isn't one comment on this thread about the "greatest" dodgy keeper of them all!
I always thought that Bruce Grobbelaar was pretty dodgy, especially in this game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29GpwMo0yII
