to finance Dwight Gayle? Apparently with only a year left on his contract he (Roofe) is looking for more cash than Leeds are willing to pay, so do we sell him now in order to get Dwight Gayle?

No, because Gayle will be in exactly the same boat, with bells on - i.e. he'll be wanting much more money than Roofe would ever think to ask for.

Yes but the difference would be we'd get a fee for Roofe now rather than nothing in 12 months time......and Gayle would get more goals.

Time to do the math. Let's say you get £5m for Roofe. Take away 20% VAT (£1m), Agent fees (£500k), and you get left with £3.5m. Add in a signing on fee (£1m+) Agent fees (£1m), and your 'profit' is down to £1.5 - or £30k pw, if you like. That doesn't cover the difference in wages. We'll be spending £10k pw extra - minimum, and my figures are very conservative. And that's just year 1, btw. It just does not make sense to gamble so much of the small cash pot we have on one person. We could make Roofe very happy & still save money for an alternative imo.

But Bielsa will make the right decision. I trust him with your balls in his hand. :)

Newcastle will not sell Gayle for less than £10m and he will not accept less than £50kpwk, so pointless thinking about it as we dont have the cash. Roofe deserves a pay rise and expects to get as much as Bamford is on, but he may still get sold to Palace

Agree with Eire first we get a replacement lined up then sell (if Bielsa agrees that is). Roofe is better than Bamford but he isn’t the divisions best, we shouldn’t be held to ransom so a tricky one.

That's a no from me, I don't think we should be selling our top scorer again. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking for a 30+ a season striker though.

Don't know if we should sell Roofe to finance Dwight Gayle, but YES we should sell him to finance a better striker:emoticon-0148-yes:

My view from a sunbed in greece is clearer than others. Why sell roofe he wont fetch that high a price. Realistically it would be foolish to let him go to a champ club. So keep him and if he fecks off on a free next season after promotion who cares. Gayle is trouble and too big headed.
Bamford will come good and we owe money to boro no doubt.
Jack Clarke might have been another Byram a one season wonder. Prem clubs need to fill the home quota so lets make them bid for him. Pots of money floating about lets grab some and invest in real quality. I dont care if its loans but they have to be good.

I only ask two things if we go into the loan market.
1. They’re quality.
2. They’re fit.
