It appears that Squillaci is becoming a scapegoat. I don't think he did that bad and he has not made that many errors for the last few games he has featured in, in my opinion. Against Newcastle, he didn't do half as bad as what people were saying. Koscielny had a right stinker, though.

So Djourou, who went off at 4-0 up, should be blamed in part for the 4-4 draw and Squillaci, who came on at 4-0, did well and shouldn't be the scapegoat?

Strange arguement!

At the end of the day we were poor as a team for much of the second half of the season, defenders are always going to be made to look bad in this scenario!

Chris samba was deemed to lightweight at sedan! its only recently hes bulked up lol.

Djourou is young you will see him get more stronger

Djourou is a quality defender. But people just dont realise how well Laurent koscielny has done in his first season! Hes come into the premieship and adapted straight away!

Look at the big games Man utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man city, barcelona hes been superb.

Koscielny is good in the air, great on the ball, calm, assured and has a strong mentality

It was a big mistake, but Szczesny could've done better imo. Koscielny was too confident if anything, like you said he should've just put his laces through the ball. They should've communicated better, especially considering that they can both speak Polish.

Overall he's been great this season, he hasn't had one bad game. He made one or two mistakes in the first few weeks of his Arsenal career, but he's been immense ever since. He'll become the best CB in the league soon.

He is a good technical defender but he is too physically weak, not a good enough decision maker and needs to improve his positioning if he is to become as god as you think he will be. Of course all of those things will improve with more experience but I think your faith in him is a bit misplaced.

He's physically weak? Based on what? I haven't seen him get out muscled this season. And yeah I agree, he could work on his positioning a little bit, but that's nothing major.

And I don't think my faith is misplaced at all. I'm almost certain he'll become one of the best CBs in the league. He will be world class.

My oh my that was shocking from Johan. The bloke has forgot how to defend since he came back from that injury. At this rate he should be nothing more then out 4th choice defender next season. And in order for that Wenger needs to buy a CB. And i think he will.

I see him get outmuscled all the time, Kevin Davies raped him against bolton. I think positioning is a massive part of being a defender too. Still don't see why you think he will become amazing.

He made of his only mistakes this season against Bolton earlier this season, but he was great for the rest of the game. And he handled Davies well imo, he won most headers and didn't do much else wrong.

I think he'll be great because he's hungry and he's got talent. Those two go well together. He's fantastic on the ball, very composed, he's decent in the air, he's ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT at tackling and like I said above, he's hungry. Ooh and he's still young.

Great, great player.

Don't forget Vermaelen had Gallas and then Campbell playing next to him in his first season in this league, both experienced CB's. Koscielny on the other hand has had to play with Squillaci (first season in the league) and Djourou (out for ages, also inexperienced). It just seems to me that after Vermaelen has been out for so long people are building him up to epic proportions. He makes errors too.

This is what I mean; just because Squillaci came on the field, it does not mean he will prone to an inexorable mistake.

Squillaci didn't have his greatest ever game - not by a long shot, and I do not even like him, so if I thought he did something vitally wrong, I'd be the first to condemn him - but tell me, what did he actually do wrong in Newcastle's ''miraculous'' four goal comeback?

First goal - Koscielny put his legs through Best's and tripped him up, whilst his hands was all over him. Blatant penalty.

Second goal - deplorable defending by Clichy. Did not clear the ball at all when he jumped for it and Best was quick to pounce on Clichy's schoolboy error.

Third goal - terrible decision by the referee. Williamson made a meal out of being ''sandwiched'' between Rosicky and Koscielny, even though there was virtually no contact made, which was enough to bring him down.

Fourth goal - we did not clear properly, and it was a belter from Tiote.

Care to explain what role Squillaci had in any of those goals? The most common name was Koscielny...

The first one was very obvious. We really can have no complaints. Koscielny panicked and his inexperience was exposed; Best was going nowhere and he tripped him up.

The second penalty was a disgraceful decision and it was shocking how Williamson sneakily deceived the referee by making it look like he was pushed. Also, there are times when the referees can be pressurised by the home crowd into making a decision. These are called ''Home penalties''. And that's exactly what happened.

Fair enough, lets just say the first one was a penalty, that makes it 4-1, it shouldn't be a costly error. And like you said, the third one was a disgrace, can't blame Kossy for that.

Squillaci was truly awful after coming on Samir. He may not have been directly involved in the goals we conceded, but he failed to clear to ball several times and he just looked shaky in general.

Either way we should be able to hold on to a 4 goal lead ffs!

As good a goal threat Vermaelen is, Jayram has a point when he says Vermaelen has a tendency to charge into a tackle, next season I'd like to see him sit back and not go bombing forward at every opportunity... something Koscienly is also prone to do.

I've noticed Vermaelen does this too...
If I remember correctly... the chip Messi scored against you came about due to Vermaelen charging for a high ball on the half way line and missing it.

Thats why I think Djourou and Vermaelen would make a great partnership because Djourou naturally likes to hang back and Vermaelen naturally likes to come forward.

Yep...
And that's the main reason why Samba may not be the best signing for you...Your high line.
Vermaelen needs to improve on this part of his game though. I can recall quite a few similar ball watching incidents.

But then again, maybe he isn't being screened enough to start with... a serious holding midfielder would aid all of your CBs considerably.
