Not much to do this time of year. I've finished for the winter digging out man made crap and it's too early to start on the balsam and knotweed.
Keeps me busy. This year's crap from a snaggy stretch of river. Its a bastard to dig out by hand. Luckily the farmer moves it from the river to where I can get it away in my car.

On average over the last 6 years I've dug out about 500 bags a year of man made waste from the river.
Keeps me busy.

Councils do not like having their attempts at safety improved on by the public

Whenever it is shown to be an improvement they retrospectively deny planning permission and force the culprit to pay to have it returned to its previous state using one of their overpaid contractors to do the work involving Health and Safety measures that will cost 10 times more than the actual work itself

I worked for Local Government for 14 years

A good example was in London where a paving slab was loose, one man with a bucket of sand doing the repair. one man supervising, two men acting as lookouts and another man ensure all H and S rules were complied with

Aye, I don't mess with public footpaths. This is on private land and the path is used by fishermen only and the odd dog walker that shouldn't be down there. I know the guys who run the fishing club and they're happy for me to do this sort of stuff.
