Gareth Bale maintained his superb scoring form to put Tottenham in control of their Europa League last-16 tie against Inter Milan.

Bale glanced in a header from Gylfi Sigurdsson's cross early on but will miss the second leg after his fourth caution of the season for diving.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????? 4th?

Sigurdsson turned in from close range after Jermain Defoe's shot was saved.

Jan Vertonghen headed in a third from Bale's corner in the second half to give Spurs a comfortable advantage.

While manager Andre Villas-Boas will be pleased to see Bale continuing his impressive run with his 21st of the campaign, there were plenty of other positive signs from a dominant performance that led to a sixth win in seven matches.

Icelandic midfielder Sigurdsson was a constant threat on the left flank and, making his first start after a month out with an ankle problem, Defoe looked sharp in attack.

A 50th Tottenham goal, and an 11th in nine games for club and country, mean that Welshman Bale will never be short of plaudits.

( So not calling it a simulation, or giving pundits air to call it a cancer of the game eh?

Bale has only failed to score in one of his last nine matches. He has opened the scoring in seven of those games.

At least the positives continue to vastly outweigh the negatives and after an intense opening from the hosts, Bale guided a header into the corner from a Sigurdsson ball from the left.

Inter were struggling to get out of their own half and after 17 minutes they were two behind.

A neat passing move from Spurs worked space for Aaron Lennon to pull back for Defoe, whose shot was blocked by goalkeeper Samir Handanovic only for Sigurdsson to touch in.

Sigurdsson crossed for Vertonghen to have a looping header tipped over before another ball from the left saw Bale head wide.

Inter had a chance to reduce the arrears just before the interval but Ricardo Alvarez clipped wide after being sent clear by Antonio Cassano.

And they were soon made to pay after the break.

Vertonghen should have turned in from a Bale free-kick, but the Belgian made no mistake when he met Bale's corner unmarked to head in.

Bale just missed after a typical surge forward before Handonovic turned around the post from Defoe.

Lennon was also denied a fourth when he put the ball through Christian Chivu's legs only to be blocked by Handanovic.

Tottenham's goalkeeper Brad Friedel was alert enough to to race out to deny Rodrigo Palacio after a quick free-kick from Esteban Cambiasso and Spurs head to Italy in a strong position.

I mean come on, 4th caution for diving and then a tiny reference to it, it ain't that they ignore it, they are actually lying to paint him in a better light ffs. They are chipping in with their bit to get him player of the year cos they just can't swallow Suarez getting it, remember the Sky vote that they left open past closing time because Suarez was winning!.

hardly conspiracy, I'm just pointing out what I see, this is as clear as day.

Stoke's Robert Huth has let himself down with ban - Tony Pulis

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis says Robert Huth has "let himself down" after the defender was banned for three matches for violent conduct.

Huth, 28, was charged by the Football Association following an incident during the Potters' 1-0 defeat by Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Television cameras picked up the German appearing to aim an elbow at Fulham defender Philippe Senderos.

"I don't think Robert will be pleased and it affects the team," said Pulis.

"But everyone makes mistakes, and he will be big enough and strong enough to hold his hand up and say that what he did was wrong." (standing on Suarez was OK then

The clash with Senderos was not seen by the match officials, but the FA took action after reviewing video evidence.

Huth, who joined the Potters in a £5m move from Middlesbrough in 2009, will now miss games against West Ham, Newcastle and West Brom.

"Robert has been fantastic for this football club - a great player and one of the signings we will look back on and say 'what a wonderful signing'," added Pulis.

"But I think he has let himself down more than anything else."

In October, the German defender was not punished for an alleged stamp on Luis Suarez.

Under FA rules, retrospective action cannot be taken if an incident has been seen by the officials, even if the full extent of it has not been witnessed. (this rule is designed to give a ref control over letting certain teams away with murder when the evidence is so clear and on video. All the ref has to do is say he saw it and the player goes off scot free

And, unlike Huth's clash with Senderos at Fulham, at least one of the match officials saw the coming together of the Stoke defender and Liverpool striker Suarez.

Suarez was a hate figure after getting booked for diving v Stoke and that he somehow deserved the stamp, as we know. Now Huth is an honest lad and made a mistake for trying to intentionally hurt an opponent again, this time by trying to smash Senderos with an elbow<doh>

we had the same ****e with Terry situation, one paper listed all Suarez misdemeanour's yet for Terry all his fecking honours, no dif than them brainwashing half the people on here into voting conservative, anyone with half a brian cell can see they are useless twats, but in fairness they all are, but too many sheep now days sadly.
