I disagree. No team should sell a player who has good quality as a wide midfield player unless the price is right. The suggestion seemed to be to sell practically everybody in an attempt to buy in more players which seemed more like panic. I think Robertson is as much a full back as Elmo is. You want to sell Robertson because Bruce doesn't rate him as a full back. I don't think people rate Elmo as a full back. I think a lot of people rate Robertson and Elmo as wide midfield players and for that reason I would keep them.

I only said sell Robertson cos Bruce clearly doesnt fancy him at left back. I'd have him there with Brady in front so he has the adequate defensive cover from Robbie.

Cash in on those I identified in the other thread, get the new midfielder right and that team stays up with ease.

That would be my team as well - ideally without Hernandez and with a new striker such as Deeney, but we won't get anything like our money back for Abel and I can't see Allam putting up another £10m+ so we'll probably be stuck with Abel or a loan striker (James Wilson?)

I don't know but I wouldn't think that's a good reason to have sold him or to have kept him. It's more a reflection on the Spurs team as a whole.

Sell Davies for anything north of £7m
Sell Robertson for anything north of £12m (cos Bruce clearly doesnt fancy him in a flat 4)
Sell Huddlestone for anything north of £8m
Sell Jake for £5m
Sell Meyler for £1m
Sell Sagbo for £1m
That gives a war-chest of £39m

I'd try and get Giampaolo Pazzini on loan and bring in a box to box midfielder to play alongside Diame cos for all the money we've spent and all the numbers we have our centre mid is lumbering, slow and predictable (Diame excepted)[/NSFW]

More realistic valuations in my opinion

Davies - £3.5m tops
Robertson - £9-10m tops based on his brief cameos in recent matches
Huddlestone - £7m tops
Livermore - £6m is the most a club with any sense would have paid for him in August, and he's been s**t for us since then. So...
Meyler - £3m based on what we got for Boyd, but more likely sub-£2m
Sagbo - Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps

That brings it down to around £27.5m - little more than chicken feed in this division

We need to decide what our favoured formation is first and foremost, and then find players who can work within it and who'll complement our current sorry lot (and remember that those players you've listed are probably our best players at the moment, which says a great deal).

You are talking about Sagbo not Splodgenessabounds.

I totally agree with you. If we sold the players suggested we'd be struggling to get a team out that would do well in the championship. Getting enough new players to survive in the premier league would cost the rest of allam's fortune even if he was willing to spend it. Getting our form back and a correct formation is much more of a priority than selling anybody in sight and buying new players.

Not even DiCanio would pay should an exorbitant price for Sagbo.

Most of our players are 'off the boil' and wouldn't bring in half of what you suggest.
 
Although it would be nice to get another striker in I can't see us having one of three expensive strikers not getting a start most weeks. Hernandez has shown enough quality to score goals when he gets the service that suits him.

We are not going to achieve anything by wholesale sales.

This is where Bruce and his staff have to do one of the things what they are paid for. I know it's a cliche but they have to work hard on the training ground and choose a sensible formation with the players that suit it.
 
Robertson is definitely a full back, he just needs time to learn his defensive work properly.

He's definitely no winger.

Elmo also has been far more solid and switched on defensively at right back this season, he also offers a lot more going forward than rosey. I would definitely have him as first pick at right back but only so long as someone with more attacking by qualities is played in front of him, not to fit David Meyler in as some sort of makeshift right winger.

If they started to play at their best we wouldn't want to sell them.
 
For the millionth time, we simply are not good enough up front.
Posters keep telling me that there is more to a striker than just scoring goals and I agree, there is! A good striker has to have anticipation, first touch and presence. NONE of our strikers have these qualities. How many times do you see Jelly in the penalty area with his arms outstretched screaming for the ball when he is surrounded by defenders. The player with the ball should spot the empty space and the 'striker' should be heading for it. I have seen our midfielders slotting the ball through, time and time again, and there is nobody there. The crowd moan complaining of a lousy pass but if we had an alert, anticipating, first touch striker he would have been on to it. Jelly and Hernandez are not (and never will be) 'lone strikers' and cannot fulfill this role. Brady and Elmo were brilliant in the Championship and left defenders for dead but have been proven to be no more than average in this league. I am very impressed with Robertson (Oh why hasn't this bloke got a right leg as well as a left) who can link up with Brady and take the ball where Brady can't but then finds there's nobody there. Other posters tell me that our forwards aren't getting 'supply'. 'Supply' is to the feet but our blokes do not have the ability to do anything with it and are surrounded by defenders. I watched Newcastle against Chelsea and saw Cisse score a simple goal by getting himself into the right place at the right time and completely unmarked - and this against one of the Premier Leagues finest defences.
We HAVE to start scoring some goals and I do not know the answer but I do know that we are not going to get many with our current forwards.
Some one mentioned Matty Fryatt, very competent in the Championship but at this level showed that he had little pace, one foot and no first touch.
We have a huge problem and I honestly can't believe that Steve Bruce was quoted as saying that he was happy with his current forwards and would 'resist the urge to spend' in the January window. If he can return the current loan-ins and bring in players more competent at this level it would be a start.

Have you seen how big our squad is? Why would selling these players I named have an impact on us getting out of the Championship? None of them are essential to keep and we'd still have more than enough players even if we didnt sign a single other player.

WE HAVE GOT TOO MANY PLAYERS.
