I do genuinely love the idea that he thinks during contract negotiations that we would suggest to the agent "can you just stick a release clause in there should we be relegated, so we have to sell your player for much lower than their market value without any opportunity to negotiate on price? There's a good chap..."

Yeah but it was activated after we got relegated, it doesn't become un-activated when we get promoted again. Relegation did come before we got promoted you know, it kind of has to happen like that when you reach the top division. The evidence really is there after his relegation release clause was met by Newcastle and we reluctantly could do nothing about it, other than offer him a new deal which he rejected.

Everyone else - are these winding me up or are they just really, really thick?
