I never really rated him tbf, and after holding us to ransom over a new contract this time last year I was glad to get him off the books when Pompey came in for him. He didnt look like a good person to have around the dressing room.

He was largely ****e for us, and the source of many a promising move breaking down. He was mainly injured or coming back from an injury which allowed his abject performances to be excused over a large part of his Sunderland career. Being a dick over the deal offered topped it off for me. He’s at his level hope he’s real happy there. Not missed here in the slightest. Looks like another injury affected season for him to keep up the pretence that there’s a footballer in there.
Another one who turned into Messi while he was injured. The clamour to get him back in the team was staggering. Needless to say when he got back on the field he resorted to ****e. Good riddance, somebody else's problem.
Really rated him when he first broke into the team but never really progressed and constantly injured. Shame really.

Looked a good player at first, with a great burst of pace he looked a real threat , but with little end product, still think he has something about him , his attitude and his injury record proving the main handicaps. On balance pleased he , and we have moved on,
Good pros push through the niggly injuries, look at Onien over the last few seasons, he played with a terrible shoulder injury. Would Denver Hume do that ? I dont think so, you either have the heart to play or you dont, you can have all the talent in the world but its no good with a heart the size of a pea. Seen it loads of times over the years with very talented players unwilling to push through the pain barrier.
Yes i agree. I remember Klopp shaming Sturridge in an interview and saying he needs to man up and play through the pain in order to get rid of one of the many injuries he had over his career.

He looked alright in a wingback role where he had massive space to run into, but he was soft as clarts and couldn’t mark a ****ing bingo card.

Beat me to it. That was what ended Sturridge at the top level, at one point he looked very good at Liverpool but he was said to be unwilling to play with the slightest niggle. Niggles are inevitable for professionals. If he wasn't willing to do it when he was playing at a good club and playing well shows an issue with attitude which I assume got worse as he dropped levels!
