Decent performance

hello MR, I'm off - before I upset you.

The only time you get close to upsetting me mate is when you throw out the abuse.

If you can't stand your ground without resorting to being a keyboard warrior fair enough. <ok>

PS.

Arsenal are a big team?

Arshavin, Walcott, Gervinho, Benayoun and Artetta?

It was always going to be a difficult game, anyone who expected anything more than a draw has probably been covered off in Bruce's "fans expectations" comments.

Arsenal are very much a team in a false position, have brought in quality players to compliment the proven players they already have and all have something to prove.

How many of you expected a drubbing after Van Persies opening goal - it is a positive that we did not capitulate, indeed equalised, had some good chances and had to be undone by an unstoppable free kick.

Arsenal are a big team(Arshavin omitted) and there height and physical presence ran the midfield - as it would against the majority of teams at home, they had a good game.

I'm saddened to see armchair critics resort to the "4 out of 21" argument, this type of statistic is like a lamp post to a drunk, as much for leaning against as illumination, it is an irrelevance as some of those games were last season and conveniently exclude the good run we had before Christmas - the one stat that matters is that last season we finished 10th, the one before that was 13th(an improvement)

I don't contribute on here much anymore as the negativity that seems to have become a hallmark of some of our supporters is tedious, it was commented on today on Sky - not in a good way either - ridiculous is the word that was used to describe the criticism of Bruce, these are professional sports journalists - they don't know it all, however they can be a bit more subjective than you (or I).

One thing would say is that I hope that Short does not focus too much in the business side - like developing the asian market -and lose track of the footballing issues - mush in the same way Murray was distracted by the AoL.

Id say the flip side of that mate is that looking from the outside in all they see is a team that finished 10th last year being criticised by its own fans after 8games, without any knowledge of the underlying issues causing the problems at the minute at our club. Like i said im as patient as they come so 3points in our next game will go a long way to appease many, however its hard to stay optimistic after another "what could have been" performance.

apone, shut up you mug, we were well in the game until we were beaten by a free kick, terrible management eh? moron

Is that why we are 4th off bottom with 6 points from 8 games having already played the likes of Swansea and Norwich with the likes of Man C and Man U to come?

Was todays loss yet another one off? Was todays decision to start without a recognised striker and 7 midfielders the best we as a premiership force could muster?

whatever the formation, i wasnt expecting anything from this game.

RVP won the game for Arsenal, he was the difference otherwise we played well imo

Why were you not expecting anything from a team sitting 1 place above us, 5th off bottom of the league? Those are the type of teams we need to be beating if we have any aspirations of finishing 10th.

yes maybe we do expect to much from us against the top 4 but a good performance and give ourselves afighting chance is all i ask but to drop points against the bottom teams is unexeptable until we can beat the bottom lot we cant move on never mind bruce saying we have won nowt in 50 years he shoult at least get us good enough to beat the lesser teams in the premiership <bubbly>

we can all say what we think of bruce and whether or not he should go but it only matters what short says and at the mo I haven't seen him officially come out to say whether he supports bruce or whether he needs to improve performances. as for today bruce was tactically inept as im sure before todays game arsenal had conceded 16 goals and their defence has looked very shakey this season and bruce should of taken a risk and attacked from the off and played 2 up front but he opted for his defensive mentality but that is my opinion and people may not agree and thats what forums are about people airing there opinion.

Exactly my thoughts ;)

Going to the Emirates intending to shut up shop against a shakey Arsenal defence is unforgivable. We went into that game intending to take a point with the 4-5-1 formation and got exactly what we deserved for adopting those tactics....

Nothing!

After a terrible start I thought we kept the ball reasonably well and looked dangerous at times. Defensively solid after the first 30 seconds, suppose we have to stop conceding such early goals but in general the defence is starting to look solid, Turner being back is a big influence I think.

Vaughan kept the ball very well again and although I was suprised to see Gardner dropped I though colback did very well in his place, Sessegnon did very well leading the line on his own but I think now he needs Ji up front with him, I thought he looked bright and took his disallowed goal very well, time to give him a start?

Feeling positive looking forward to Bolton next week, play that well and we'll get something there, great mental strength again from the lads to come back after a nightmare start, haway the lads

Did we just watch a different game mate?

Bruce will relegate us this season and some supporters are sleep walking into it.

I'm staggered that anyone would think today was anything other than totally ****e. Another lacklustre performance and tactical nightmare from the rank amateur we employ as manager.

Pathetic.

Whilst I agree with some of your points Pat - Bruce limited our capabilities today by stopping the side playing. At the start, and for the first 20 minutes,we defended and did nothing else - no opportunities going forward. nothing!

The we scored and, until half time (when the Manager get's his oar in again) we were by far the better side - creating and pushing and making their defence look poor (as it is) - then half time came around, Bruce worked his magic and the players stopped playing. Had we kept going the game was there for us but Bruce stopped them from doing what was working. Until we went 2-1 down we never looked like doing anything second half - I was on the fence until recently but am erring to the side of Bruce Out now - the bloke has no idea and calls us fans for having "too high expectations" - well Steve, what would your expectations be? PLayed 8 w 1 d 3 l 4 - that's a 50% loss rate and a 12.5% win rate - or should we go a little further back and the win rate drops even more. I pay to watche them and I can see it - he is paid a lot of money to manage them and he can't see it.

Bruce killed the game from the start lads playing a not very exciting 4 6 0 formation against an Arsenal team who have been very poor at the back. As a lot have said if he had went for it and we were beaten then fine at least we had a go but, to go behind yet again in the first minute (fastest goal so far this season apparently) means that yet again Bruces plan A is struggling.
Decent performance from the team yes fair enough but, yet another crap one from the manager who is determined to **** us up every step of the way.

In my opinion, the decision to give Arsenal a free kick which resulted in their wimnner was wrong..Having said that, the best team won on the day...

We passed the ball from time to time put in a couple of crosses and that was it.

If you start with 3 defenders and 7 natural midfielders (bearing in mind Richardson is a natural midfielder) who is going to score the goals to win the game? Elmo? Cattermole? Colback? Vaughan? Sessegnon? Only Larsson gives us any confidence that we will score... Richardson is not in the correct position to be a goal threat...

As poor as we were there were two guilt edge chances yesterday but the players who were in the position to take advantage of those opportunities neither had the composure, speed of thought or skill to be clinical enough to score a goal... Players like that might do well in the championship and at this rate thats where we are heading, but the premier league? You have to take your chances... Over to the manager... Erm oh dear... that thought doesn't instill much confidence.

I have read all the comments, I did not see the game but it's all very predictable.

The Bruce outs say we played 1,4,6,0 which is not correct because on the highlights Sess was definitely playing up front.

The Bruce in's are defending the fact we did not get hammered.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Our problem is the player we were going to build a team around (gyan) shafted us. We just need to be in contention until Jan so we can get a Gyan (and now Titus) replacement.

This is always going to be a transitional season. 10th is the best we can hope for again. Bruce in or Out will not make much difference until the window opens.

You may aswell stick Nozza upfront because atleast his Cruyff turn might give him a bit of space to take a shot at goal. Sessegnons shooting is woeful and therefore he isn't suited to playing upfront.

Gyan was sent packing by the club... it was the clubs decision to accept the conditions of the loan.

I'd suggest that Bruce's lack of man management skills are the root cause for Gyan's lacklustre performances, the same as Bent... Once Mensah and Muntari were sent home Gyan was only ever going to become unsettled and we should have been looking to replace Gyan at the start of the summer. Hold on, we brought in Bendtner (on loan) to replace Gyan, so who replaced Bent? Connor Wickham?

Arsenal have been **** away from home, but they have a good record at home.

They also have a squad, aside from their defence, which is still top 5 quality.

Bendtner was not bought in to replace Gyan, but as someone Gyan could play off.

Gyan left for the $$$$ any suggestion otherwise is just ridiculous. Why would Quinn not accept the loan offer, when Gyan obviously wanted to make quick $$ in the UAE? No point keeping a player who is not interested.

Are you seriously suggesting that Gyan walked in to the office and declared that he was leaving for the UAE and neither Short, Quinn or Bruce could stop him leaving?

I'm suggesting that there is a deeper issue that caused Gyans poor form and that issue is Bruce's lack of management skills. Another major factor for the motivation of a foreigner would be how many compatriots he had on a social level. If the plan was to let Mensah and Muntari go, surely a man of 50+ years of age would stop to ponder upon the impact that Gyans internantional teamates leaving may have upon his desire and motivation to stay at the club?

They could stop him from leaving, but why would they?

1) player wants to leave - do we keep a player who is not happy? I wouldnt
2) 6 million loan fee
3) he was leaving to the ACN anyhow in the new year

So you suggest we should have kept Mensah and Muntari just to keep Gyan happy? Mensah was injured more times than not, and Muntari was poor.

Got to disagree mate Muntari was ****ing poor and didn't want to be with us.

I'm suggesting that we should have brought in a striker to replace Gyan... But the excuse is that we didn't have the time to do that... but if proper planning was in place it should have been anticipated that when Muntari and Mensah left that Gyan may be unsettled by this and the best solution would be just to replace him...

For the record, I would have kept Mensah on the books even though he had injuries, because I'd rather be watching Mensah now and then as opposed to Turner.

Its a ****ing shambles....
