Yes, for terrorism etc, when there is no doubt, save money and resorses keeping them in jail.
I'll play devils advocate and say no.
There's not a humane way of killing a criminal.
In the USA is costs on average 1.26m to put someone to death.
Mistakes and flaws in the system will result in a few innocent people being put to death.

Yes, for *****philes and murderers. I don't get this 'death penalty should only apply for murdering a policeman' argument as though the life of a policeman is worth more than the life of anyone else - it's not.

So someone like Michael Ryan in Hungerford if he'd been caught before he shot himself would've been a prime candidate for topping.

There have been people who were later proved innocent who would now be dead. And if the punishment for taking an innocent life is death penalty then shouldn't this then apply to the excutioner, the judge, the prosecutor and they be punished/executed when an innocent persons life is taken?

Stealing sheep carried the death penalty. The reason the Welsh were branded as sheep shaggers was it was a lesser crime than theft. All a thief had to do when caught thieving was to drop his pants and he'd get done for a misdemeanor instead.
Mind you, the penalty for that could be nasty, but not many got caught or our choirs would have been full of sopranos.

Friends in the Outer Hebrides told me of someone who was found dead in a field. It was a mystery as his death had been pretty gruesome. His lower abdomen had been ripped out of his body, and conspiracy theorists reckoned it was an alien abduction....
.... until they heard the whole story. Which included the nearby stool! This guy had been standing on the stool shagging a cow. Apparently a cow can create an internal vacuum that does it no harm, but if stick your dick in & complete the seal, something has to give, and the cow has the more resistant constitution. Which is why the guy's dick & lower abdomen were ripped out from the rest of his body. I can only hope for his sake that it was quick.
Not an urban myth, btw. I was shown the local newspaper article. It was about 40 years ago.
