just catching up but even in your title winning run you just sat deep and hit on the counter in general :p and you had less than 50% possession if i remember right in most games. Not sure that's what we're aiming for fossi.

All i've seen from drinky is that he's a hardworker who can play a disciplined role and tries way too many hollywood passes to vardy (he can't do that here). I hope he proves me wrong but its very underwhelming and as stan says, he's our new parker and probably wont play much

Completely understand why he might seem an underwhelming signing ... as I've said, quite happy to lose him if Adrian Silva is coming in ... but he might surprise you with better players around him ...our tactics stemmed from necessity ... two midgets up front and the physically frail Mahrez were never going to be able to hold the ball up in the physical EPL ...

<laugh> conveniently skipping over the fact that the signing of Rio was a world record for a defender at the time ... nice side step Stan ... even Besty would have been impressed <ok>
What has Rio's transfer fee got to do with Vidic?

Does the fact that Musa turned out to be ****e mean that Vardy wasn't such a steal?

****ing bizarre way of looking at the cost of an individual player!

Your comments came on the back of me mentioning the depth of United's pockets and the value we got from the signing of Huth and Morgan ...even £7 million for Vidic at the time United signed him would have been top dollar and probably equivalent to £40 million plus in today's market ... Huth cost us £3 million and Big Wes about £500k ... United would have been expected to compete for the title with those spending levels ... we would not with a centre back pairing costing £3.5 million ... I think in terms of value for money, ours are hard to beat.

"we certainly got better value for Huth and Morgan than anyone other than perhaps Chelsea for central defenders over recent times"

Vidic cost £7m in 2006. Chelsea spent £20m on Carvalho in 2004.

So by your reckoning Carvalho would now be a £115m player but still good value.

OK...

So you class 2004 as 'recent times' ... which was my reference to Chelsea ... OK.

not criticising those tactics at all.

I'm just questioning why you think we will be dominating possession if we decide to pair kante and drinkwater up when there has not been any evidence at all for this?

Now obviously Drinkwater might fit into our side and be another cog, especially since conte is a sum of team greater than individuals guy and obviously he's **** ****, just bang average and a ball shuffler but i think it sums it up that you are happy for him to go and you guys will be happy if you just make europe

... merely because you will deny the opposition possession and there should be no reason for you to go long with the talent that will come to receive the ball from Drinky / Kante ... (read somewhere that Drinkwater made the most tackles of any player in the EPL over the last 2 seasons combined) ...

I think you misread Fosse's post.

He said that other teams will struggle to dominate with possession. Drinkwater and Ngolo ensured that nobody kept possession in dangerous areas against us. Teams generally faffed about passing it between midfield and defence and when they got too high up the pitch Ngolo or Danny would nick it and get it forward quickly to Vardy/Mahrez/Albrighton/Okazaki.

Possession stats will say that we won most games while having 40 odd percent of the ball in our title winning season but you don't necessarily have to have the ball to control the game. We were rarely 'dominated'.

This would make sense if that's what he said. He said the opposition wouldn't have the ball.

that the opposition won't hold on to the ball for long enough to do much damage

You referenced the Ferdinand fee. He was signed in 2002. Now you're emphasising "recent times".

OK...

Two different topics that have crossed over ... you said Morgan and Huth had a good season but you wouldn't want them ...current tense. I pointed out that nobody would realistically want such an ageing centre back pairing - even one that had previously been as good as Rio and Vidic - as Rio more than proved at QPR.

You then got a bit hissy about any comparison ignoring the obvious ageing point that I was making...which was the only point at that stage ... it then moved to relative values.

Drinkwater is not old ... I've no idea how he'll get on at Chelsea, but it won't be age related if he's a flop ...it will be because he can't hold his own there and force his way into the starting CO.

Only Arsenal really hurt us with lots of clever tricky players ..but Kante only came on as sub for his debut when we first played them. Otherwise spot on AKCJ ... with Pedro, Hazard and William all available for Kante/Drinky to give it to once they have won it, the possession stats would rise markedly.

This would make sense if that's what he said. He said the opposition wouldn't have the ball.

Yeah, and nobody did in our title winning season. At least not in areas that would trouble us.

Reckon Butland and Pickford will be battling it out to be England's number 1 for the next decade.

Is Butland still injured?

Yeah, and nobody did in our title winning season. At least not in areas that would trouble us.
and that is the important bit, you can let them have the ball in their own 2 thirds of the pitch for 80% of the game, they ain't gonna do ****, unless they're Gerrard taking wild pot-shots every time he gets the ball.

I'm happy with our transfer window..some astute purchases...Serge Aurier over Walker anyday but the best bit was making ****e pull his fake hair out coz he missed out on his main target since January hehe

the hate is strong with this one.....:)

I'm not sure we can say Serge over walker anyday but i think serge will be a very astute as long as he doesn't do anything stupid to disrupt the team.

What do you reckon will happen to trippier? Back to backup?

Not sure you've had a great transfer window though. Satisfactory
