I would imagine that Pardew would get hammered for it by the fans. He's the only person that the fans ever get to see.

Ashley would give him grief for bringing the club into disreputation or whatever. He's in a no-win situation and he can only put on pressure, as he has been doing, on the board. But that's not working as we have Kinnear as the man in the middle who appears to have vanished and if the rumours are correct then Ashley is offshore somewhere.

All Pardew can hope for is that by saying that he needs three or four players then any pressure will be pushed away from him by the fans. I don't envy the poor sod's position at all.

Would you hammer him if he said we weren't signing anyone? I wouldn't. I'm not saying he should back that comment up by claiming, as Kinnear did, that the squad is big enough. There are ways of being simply honest and not looking idiotic. Kinnear takes care of that. Ashley would struggle to do anything if it was a fact - anything serious and he's done for another few millions for constructive dismissal.

Pardew said himself, and I quote, that he's "the fans' leader". If any one of us knew what he knew, we'd blow that sh!t sky high. He chooses to tow the line for whatever reason. So he doesn't get my sympathy at all. If anything, the fact he's set the wrong expectations - AGAIN - further tarnishes his reputation.

Good point, but wouldn't people have a go at him for not trying to get anyone on board?

I am waiting for the day when Newcastle put out eleven players and no-one on the bench.

No, I don't think they would. It's an informed world, and you'd have to be under a fcking big rock to have missed Joe Kinnear's announcements that it was he, and only he, who would be responsible for buying (and of course selling) at SJP. It's not Pardew managing the books, everyone knows that.

He could even go so far as to say something political like "i'd really like one or two, particularly up front. But I'm sure every manager would like more. Unfortunately for us it doesn't look like we're going to be able to bring anybody in". Nothing wrong with that, I can just get on with my Monday and leave the rest of the world to the excitement of deadline day. Not ideal, but I don't have to spend a jot of energy feeling bad about it, then progressively worse right up to 11 o clock. Then I sit and wonder what horsesh!t is going to be trotted out next about January, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, and so on. It's just about managing the fans/customers expectations as much as keeping their own house in order.

Fck it, give Kinnear licence to go on Talksport and have a half hour drunken rant about the greed of agents. Whatever it takes, get the fans back onside. We're two or three defeats away from a complete apathy meltdown. The only result of which will be LESS money because that fat cnt who owns it will take his money back even quicker.

what I've been saying for ages

no accountability, everyone passing the buck when the **** flies

Why oh why didn't Pardew just say "we won't be signing anyone until January at the earliest, I would imagine. We spent in January and unfortunately, financially, we have books to balance and debts to pay. The only way this might change is if one of our first team players are sold, then we will try to replace them. That in itself would be difficult. Just want to make sure the fans understand where we are as a club."

Is there anything politically wrong with making a statement more or less like that? Or is Pardew so self-obsessed he wants to make sure the finger of blame is pointed squarely away from him? For me, it doesn't matter. If he really, really believed he needed players and knew the club wouldn't get them, then resign.

Resigning means not getting paid.

My employers piss me off royally from time to time. Don't yours ?

I haven't resigned so far - - have you ?

Aye, fair point. Thought it, but wrote it anyway.

It's just such a helpless situation. Not the worst in the world, mind, so maybe a bit of perspective would help.
