We had a holiday thread, but what about daytrips?

Does anyone still do them i.e Alton Towers. Flamingo Land. Lightwater valley. Beamish or even a drive to Holy island grab fish and chips then head back.

I was forever at Whitley bay (mag land) gan on the fair, chippie then home. But i believe its a ghost town now.

A day in the lakes?

Owt. But all in a day. With or without kids.

I love a mooch about Comm, Sunday gone me and the current ladyfriend went all over the region, Angel, up to Tynemouth, over to Shields and Seaburn and then back.

This weekend we are going to Edinburgh Zoo then on to Loch Lomond for a night, then down to Windermere for Sunday night.

Actual, when the weather is here, Britain is a fantastic place

Top stuff. Every sunday hoyed into the car. Off we went.

There is loads to see and do mate.

Totally mate, and I find I enjoy it more the older I get. I have a drink on a Friday, see the lads go a bit daft, then weekend I like getting about, some good bait and that. It's actually amazing how much great stuff is within 2 hours or so of here, the region itself, over the lakes, up to Scotland or down to North Yorkshire.

a lot of folk complain about UK, and often with cause, but it's easy to lose sight of how much great stuff there is, and this is from someone who's seen the world.

Simple things. Sheilds ferry, across to the north. Fish quay and superb fish lot.

Simple. Easy. Cheap.

Whitby has one of the best Chippies in the UK, worth a visit for that alone but it is tranquil, clean, a bit gothic, the pubs play cool music and it is probably one of the best places to take a lass on a decent day out.. If you can wade through the chip shop grease later in her gob, there's a night to remember in there too..<ok>

A nice little idea I picked up a few years ago.

2 bowls. One with the main 8 compass points, the other with distances, from 10 miles up to 250.

I put both of them in front of my wife and told her to pick one from each.

An hour later we were heading 55 miles North East. Found a lovely hotel, had great food and wine and the next morning went for a walk in a lovely part of the country we would never have thought to go to.

We go away all the time but a lttle mystery trip now and then is just great.

I did that 8 years ago and ended up in York, the rest is history my man..<ok>

Great idea. Who knows where you will end up.

Mind some could end up in Byker. Not so great. Pick again luv.

I do love Scotland I have to say, great cities that are all compact and easy to get around, beautiful countryside, great people generally despite the piss takes, and places like Loch Lomond are just incredible.

Never had a bad day in and around Glasgow, less fussed on Edinburgh, beautiful, great zoo, but no buzz.

I can't wait to drive up Saturday been a year.

Lived up there for a while mate in South Queensferry over looking the bridges, worked in Edinburgh centre, Great Stuart Street, had a job to die for back then in a photography studio but there's a saying in Scotland, west is best for the people.. <ok>

Stirling for me is one of the best cities in the UK, has the lot..

Not sure of the name now Billy, it's been a good 10 years since I have been but I know it's still there. You know you are there by the queue's, normally right down the steps and down the street. It's near that Dracula House **** they have down there, a spooky house or something. Flattened the guy out there back in 1999, bellowed right through the mike in my ear just as I was walking past, it was like beating Christopher Lee up so I felt a bit guilty but told the lass at the time, **** it, I bet Peter Cushing fancied doing that many a time on set..<laugh><ok>
