Yes, lets include the first couple of years after his arrival when he had taken over a relegation threatened side that had ****all chance of doing anything <doh>

You don't rate Moyes, we get it, quit trying to ram it into everyone else!
 
Moyes may not have been the spectacular choice but he will be a great United manager and will bring many trophies and titles. He hasn't been able to beat the top clubs with Everton but with United and the ability to bring top players into the squad, he will win more than he loses against the top sides. Hard work+ top talent + team unity = league titles <ok>
 
I hear some people claiming Moyes has not won any trophies and we should have went for the likes of Klopp. Klopp never won a trophy with Mainz in 7 years and even took them done a division before getting the Dortmund job. Moyes knows the Premier League inside out, can manage egos without letting his own become bigger than the club, knows how to cope with pressure (relegation threat) and can manage on a shoe string. He knows how to marshall a defence and I am confident under him we will become defensively very hard to break down, something which will stand us in good stead in Europe.

Thanks SAF for the memories, you are a legend. But I am looking forward to the era of Moyes and will back him 100%.

SAF has done well and we thank him and wish him well in his retirement and in the new phase in his life. He is history and I do not mean to be harsh.

For United and the club, players and fans this is a new era. The Moyes era. No more SAF this and SAF that. DM needs our full support <ok>

I dare say that when Jurgen Klopp managed Mainz, their victories away to Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Schalke and Hamburg were few and far between. That didn't stop Dortmund appointing him as manager and they have been vindicated as he has completely turned their club around from where they were 6-7 years ago and could now win the Champions League having gone out in the league phase last campaign.

Moyes has developed Everton over a number of years and they now have a vastly improved team from the potential relegation fodder that he inherited from Walter Smith. As he has got better players in, so he has been able to get Everton to play better football and some of their play this season has been good on the eye, witness their first goal yesterday. With better players again at United, expect Moyes to set the team up to play passing football in the United tradition whilst being combative when the occasion demands. Give the man time to instill his principles, although I think the players he is inheriting have a winning mentality imprinted which will make his task easier.

Swarbs, I'd go so far as to say the opposite to Sisu (no change there!), but I think that Moyes will fail if Fergie doesn't leave well alone. The problem United had in the past was the shadow of Sir Matt over his immediate sucessors, the players always looking to him when they had issue with the suceeding managers. While I can also see why the club will feel that they can't cut Fergie loose (debt of gratitude etc.), it could be argued that for his sucessors to be sucessful, he needs to completely out of the picture.

What is your take on that?

Ferguson's presence could potentially be both a blessing and a curse. A blessing to Moyes as a sounding board. But a curse because every time United lose or are losing, TV cameras will pick him out in the crowd and people will say 'what would Fergie have done?'. Liverpool had a similar scenario a few years back when Kenny Dalglish came back to work for them, initially under Benitez and then under Hodgson. It was no secret that he wanted the Liverpool job again and his presence undermined their managers at the time, albeit both didn't help themselves. Dalglish then became manager again and we all know how disastrous that turned out to be. If Dalglish hadn't come back, there wouldn't have been an itch to scratch.

Obviously it would unrealistic to expect Ferguson to sever his ties with Manchester United and he still has much to offer. I do think it would be best if he isn't there in public eye all the time, however, but more in the background or indeed travelling the world in his ambassadorial role.

Too early to say imo. Shankly's presence at Liverpool was widely seen as a big burden to Paisley, but it didn't stop him succeeding. And it's debatable how much of Utd's decline post Busby was down to Busby's presence, or down to the fact that McGuinness and O'Farrell were simply poor replacements who just weren't up to the challenge and left Docherty with a poor squad and an impossible job.

I personally think SAF will only be a damaging presence if Moyes proves not to be up to the job. As long as we're still comfortably in the top three and performing well in Europe then the shadow of SAF will not be particularly large. It's only if Moyes fails on the pitch and in the dressing room that the presence of SAF may become an issue, and if Moyes is failing there then he would be doomed with or without SAF looking over his shoulder.

Aye, but that's cos Dalglish was obviously trying to worm his way back into the manager's seat and deliberately undermine Hodgson. SAF has retired and nominated Moyes as his successor, so as long as he doesn't feel the urge to come back then the pressure won't be the same as that placed on Hodgson at Liverpool.

And ultimately, Hodgson at Liverpool was brought in by hated owners to replace a popular manager who left under a cloud - the fans turned on him before he even started, and the players didn't try to perform for him. I don't think Moyes will have the same problems, what with having the blessing of SAF and a more tolerant fan base.

What we do not want is the name of SAF to be chanted. At any time from next season. That is why I am glad we had the full, emotional sending off at OT and in the city. We gave the great man his due and that should be it. He is now history.

This is a new chapter. SAF is gone and the new king is DM.

When we start the new season, we don't need SAF banners in the terraces. Loads of DM banners would be most welcome. He will be hungry to win trophies and I cannot see players slacking under him...<ok>
